As we said in the pricing part of the review, brand is a really important consideration, but especially so when looking to buy Lubes Cleaning. But as you’re probably already aware, you’re on to a great choice if you do go with Shimano, as they’re a fantastic brand, making amazing products. Premium grease and actually decent value. by Anonymous, 2 February 2010, 8 out of 8 people found this review helpful This is great stuff. I bought one of the little tubs a few years ago and it works very well – it’s stiff enough that it’s easy to apply but very very smooth. It definitey seems to last well too – I’ve taken things apart after 6 months use and the grease has still looked great – which didn’t seem to happen before. It’s actually good value even for such a small tub – because you don’t need to replace it so often and because there’s no waste when you apply it. Definitely recommended. does it matter if the bearing is stainless or ceramic? I’m hoping to use the same grease for BB and on the wheel hub. Carbon grip paste is often described as a grease. The solvent medium is a grease with abrasive particles embedded within the material. It is designed to increase friction by providing “bite” between surfaces. It does not function like grease in the typical sense and is not covered in this guide. Most bicycle bearing grease has a fancy marketing name like “Shimano Premium Grease”. I cannot find a NLGI number or any specifications of it. That can mask a ‘just buy me and do not ask or look elsewhere’ scam. Does anyone have a clue which NLGI number it has?Although it may be convenient, and it may work temporarily in a pinch, common household penetrating oil such as WD-40 is not an ideal chain lubricant. Do not regularly rely on penetrating oil for chain lubrication.

There are some applications where you should only use the approved grease and using the wrong grease really will cause a problem. This includes roller brake grease. This is critical to use the exact grease specified, and unsafe to substitute anything else. Are there additives in there that could make it better than the Hambini recommendations of NLGI zero grease? How does it compare? Also, some frame couplers specify special fluoro-compound grease, and it's best to follow the instructions or potentially ruin your frame from thread galling.
