Once it was effectively charged I was easily able to connect it to my computer by both Bluetooth and using the cable. Initially, it was a little difficult to get my computer to use it as both a microphone and a speaker until I installed the device software – Jabra Direct. Once I had updated the firmware everything ran smoothly and I was able to use it as a microphone and speaker in a range of different contexts. The software didn’t really add much functionality to the device but the firmware update is a must for this device. The boxing for the Jabra Speak2 55 is artfully simple. A small but sturdy cardboard box sourced from sustainable sources with no soft plastic to be found. The device is safely nestled in a fabric pouch and is completely self contained. There has clearly been a lot of thought put into the environmental impact and design aesthetic of the boxing that I deeply appreciate. What's more, if using it on the go you can be sure the 12 hour battery life will last you through the longest days of meetings. If meetings do go on even longer, you have the option of charging directly from your laptop whilst simultaneously using the speaker.

We are incredibly impressed with the Speak2 55. The design is far sleeker compared to the original Speak range, however the real difference comes in the sound performance. A true upgrade with a host of cutting edge features coupled with the versatility to perfectly suit a small conference room or a home office. I like how Jabra has redesigned the new models, giving them a sleeker, cleaner look, and all the models include an integrated USB-C cable with a USB-A adapter that allows you to plug the speaker directly into a Mac or Windows PC. The relatively compact Speak2 55 comes with a nice felt carrying case and is fairly lightweight, weighing in at 280 grams (9.88 ounces), making it easy to slip into a bag and carry around for conference calls on the go. While it offers Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, it doesn't come with a USB Bluetooth dongle to plug into your PC for more reliable wireless connectivity with computers.

If we’re being completely honest, when carrying out testing, this is where we saw the biggest difference. The sound quality and clarity, both coming out of the speaker and when receiving the sound on the other end was a drastic upgrade on the original Speak range.

I played some music through the speaker and it sounds decent though not great for a compact Bluetooth speaker. As you might expect, it's strongest in the midrange, where vocals live, so it does well with acoustic music.
