Don’t let the size of this tome intimidate you, for me the pacing kept up, never lagging, and because you’re jumping around through this mystery, the chapters are quick and always pushing toward the next bit. Arlo is quiet and reserved on the outside but get her around family and her true colors show lol, I loved her. She loved reading stories about people taking off on adventures, discovering they were natural leaders born to make a difference in the world, but a hero?An immortal condemned to spend eternity in the Mortal Realm, she’s torn between causing chaos for her own amusement, and figuring out why dangerous creatures are suddenly stalking the streets. Anyway, these four are all separately dragged into the same mystery and before we know it, we have a budding Scooby gang and the mystery is one that has powerful repercussions through their world and ours. I love that she acknowledges the mental health issue of her sister, that she can know she suffers from it as well and that immortals are not immune to it. The world-building was excellent, I loved the courts and their different locations, I loved the magic for those not fully of the fae realms and the differing levels between the ‘fae’ themselves and other beings. You must agree, however, that she has not given us cause to grant her higher status—it would be abuse of our power to cede her the right to fae standing when she has met none of those requirements.
