About this deal

Finally, I think PARKS has a nice amount of variety in the game. What helps is not only the changing of the trail each season, but the large amount of gear cards that let you break the rules in various ways. Speaking of the gear cards, I do wish there was a way to sweep the market of them. Too many times we’ve had cards no one was interested in languishing from round to round. It would be nice for them to clear out at the end of the round to see more options because there are a LOT of gear cards and usually, only 2-3 are bought in any one game. Spaces will either provide resources or an action. Final Thoughts: We (my wife, son and daughter) feel that 3 players is the sweet spot for Parks but 4 players really does work just fine. The goal of PARKS is to earn the most points over the four seasons of hiking the trail. Each player starts with two hikers and an empty canteen. A trail of 8 tiles is dealt out First things first, Wildlife introduces the following aspects to the game:– A new mechanic, the bison token Whichever way you choose, the photo you select to keep cannot be seen by your fellow players, and personally I don’t find players knowing which photo you discarded to be a detriment to your game.

Mastrangeli, Tony (17 April 2020). "2019 Board Game Award Winners". Board Game Quest . Retrieved 14 November 2021.The trail gets longer with each passing season. With the start of a new season, the trail tiles get shuffled and re-laid out, along with an extra tile. No two hikers can share the same spot, so it’s first-come, first-served. Unless, that is, you want to use your Campfire token. But you only get one of these per season, so light it with care! Also, if you can fill a Canteen with a water token you get access to harder-to-come-by memories. Other Gear cards offer further engine building options. How will you trek through the PARKS? Memories captures a depth of strategy in player abilities which can be activated by finding matches of PARKS resource icons when you reveal tiles. There are a variety of ways to enjoy the game. Play a head to head game, or on teams. Expand the grid size for a bigger challenge, or simplify the game to a memory game without player abilities for younger gamers. Parks: Wildlife brings with it new trail spaces, a new independent Bison meeple, some new, very specific, cards, and new gear. Does any of it actually change the overall game, adding in new mechanics like Nightfall did? No! Am I happy about that? Yes! So let’s talk about the only thing that could be considered a new mechanic and not just iterating on original mechanics: That Bison Meeple. Tenpenny Parks is a worker placement game. You will be placing four workers per round, over five rounds. These workers will either be placed to buy an attraction, a concession, or additional land. Alternatively they can be used to get some dollars from the bank or fell some trees to make room on your board.

The first player to collect three matches of tiles in their hand wins the game. It is simple to learn and play but has enough of a change to the normal memory style game to interest most people for a game or two. Parks and Recommendations The above is an overview of the rules and hopefully gives you a good idea of how the game plays. Final Thoughts Parks was not one in which the decision space led to analysis paralysis. Simple, sleek, beautiful and with an excellent message. But here there has been some spice thrown in. A new way of looking at water bottles, the idea of giving up points for potentially an even larger reward, mechanics that allow the camera and water canisters to become even more impact instead of just side mechanics. This is exactly what I wanted to see and am impressed by, Parks iterating on its already solid structure instead of trying to build on top by just adding in more. If you loved Parks the original but wanted more complexity but not adding in more? This is it.

Feelings aside Parks is our new family favourite and may have even ousted Wingspan as our go-to game. a b Howard, Ian (23 August 2019). "PARKS Game Review: Over the river and through the woods". The new gear and new water canisters and new seasons all add in this dusting of spice on top of an great base game to give me something that I can actually feel pulling me in, making me stare at the cards more as if somehow I can work it out, making me think about where someone is actually on the trail, making me so much more aware of other players.

The artwork, design and theme of a game can play a massive part in its success. Yes, there are those classics that perhaps could have done more with those three things however now, more than ever; we have new releases that are pure works of art. PARKS is one such example. A labour of love The strategies you can employ are limitless, gear and canteen cards can add innumerable bonus combinations which means that each play requires a slightly different approach, at higher player counts so much is changing between turns that planning ahead becomes difficult. Trails is a two to four player resource management and collection game from the makers of Parks. Similar in theme, this more compact, travel friendly game offers interesting choices, stunning artwork and gentle, well-themed play. Get Up & Go When the sun reaches the final space, that player takes one bonus photo for free. Each player then gets one more turn to carry out final moves, before points are tallied and a winner declared! Let’s Go ‘Round AgainPARKS, by Keymaster Games, is a beautiful, relaxing board game experience. In it you control two hikers, trekking across the National Parks of the US. What ‘memories’ will you make along the way? What photos will you snap?
