About this deal

Stove fans do not work in the same way as cold fans by blowing gusts of air. They instead create a consistent airflow moment which you probably do not feel, but you notice that the room is much more evenly heated. This also means the room heats up in a fraction of the time it would take when not using a stove fan. Can you use a stove fan if you don’t have a flap stove top? So, although at first it might seem like magic, Heat Powered Stove Fans actually work based on the simple principle that if two dissimilar metals are placed together and heated, they will create a small voltage that can be enough to power a motor. The Valiant FIR350 Remora Magnetic Flue Pipe Heat Powered Stove Fan which attaches to the flue pipe also needs to have access to cool air. Don’t place this at the bottom of the pipe near the stovetop, but move it a little way up the pipe. You may need to experiment with the distance as the fan still needs to be near the hot spots of the pipe. How do stove fan work? Most stove fans are designed to sit directly on top of the wood burner, but they shouldn’t be placed too close to the flue pipe – unless of course you buy a flue pipe fan, which are specifically designed to be fitted to the flue pipe and are particularly useful if your wood burner doesn’t have a suitable flat top for a standard fan. Do stove fans need batteries?

Stove fans are a fantastic innovation that can dramatically improve the warmth given out from your stove. Whilst your stove may look the part, be easy to operate and be relatively inexpensive to maintain and run, it can take a while for it to warm up a room, especially a big room. Using a stove fan will heat the room up in a fraction of the time, and is a really easy way to maximise the warmth you get from your stove. A stove fan will also reduce the heat dependency from your stove thereby saving you money in the long term on fuel costs. Second, if you have a very large room, consider buying a bigger fan to ensure it’s capable of circulating enough air around your room. Some – but not all – fans list airflow in cubic feet per minute (CFM), so in this case look for fans with a higher CFM figure. Where do I place the stove fan? It’s not a cheap option, but if you’re struggling with hot or cold spots, this powerful fan will help distribute the heat effectively and could make all the difference to how you use and enjoy your wood burner.

Valiant Premium IV Stove Fan with Magnetic Thermometer

Our innovative Premium 4 Stove Fan is a uniquely engineered design. Its blades generate up to 70% more airflow than competitor products, giving you maximum benefit, whilst standing at just 199mm tall.Undoubtedly, stove fans efficiently and effectively distribute the heat that your stove produces throughout your living space. You and your home will feel warmer for longer on the wood that you burn and you save on your electric or gas heating bills. All of the stove fans I review will do the job; it’s more a matter of which one fits in with your stove and living arrangements. All Valiant heat powered stove fans are ideal for use on wood burning stoves in homes, narrowboats, or mobile homes, and can also be used on kitchen ranges and hobs. Without a fan, a lot of heat generated by a stove is lost as the air rises directly vertically. However, a stove fan uses its blades to divert the warm air horizontally filling the whole room as opposed to the area directly between the stove and the ceiling.

The heat of the stove top is conducted through the base of the fan and converted to electricity which powers the fan motor. The fan automatically slows and stops as the heat from the stove reduces. The Premium 4 is perfect for all stoves with a flat top and for convector type twin skinned and topped stoves.Stove fans are designed to create a gentle airflow around the room so that the room will feel more evenly heated instead of being hot near the fire and colder the further away you move. The best stove fans are a great way to improve the circulation of the heat produced by your wood burner. These clever little fans are powered by the heat from your stove and help circulate the hot air into the room before it rises to the ceiling. This efficient distribution of air can reduce hot and cold spots as well as potentially lead to a reduction in the amount of wood you need to burn to achieve that warm, toasty feel. Valiant Premium 4 stove fan is perfect for all stoves with a flat top and for convector type twin skinned and topped stoves. The fan’s maximum temperature tolerance is 340°C and you can always raise the fan further up the flue pipe if the bottom of the pipe gets hotter than this (make sure you do this after it’s cooled!). Another major plus is that this Remora Magnetic Flue Stove Fan comes with a two-year warranty. As already mentioned in this review, many other brands offer a standard one-year warranty, so the extra coverage is really a bonus just in case your fan fails. Pros This stove fan is pretty quiet and won’t distract you whilst watching TV, reading a book or chatting with someone.

Had been researching stove fans for a while, but didn’t jump at buying until I could find one that would fit our stove. This is very compact, and possibly one of the smallest (according to Valiant) on the market right now. Out of the box, there is nothing to set up, just pop it on the stove, and within a few minutes, it will start to spin. If you have not yet got one, I would suggest getting a stove thermometer. The fan itself is not totally quiet, you will hear a whirring noise, especially as it speeds up, but its not annoying. There is a bi-metal device on the bottom to prevent it from overheating, should the surface temperature get too hot. It works by literally lifting the fan up off the hot surface, but I would remove it if the safety device cuts in. Does it work? I think it does. At first, we thought its not pushing out much heat, but it works on movement of air – convection, rather than a force blow like a fan heater. The stove might appear cooler, but the room is definitely warmer, I would say by up to 30% more. For us, that is a huge difference. The optimum effect is reached around 200 – 250 degrees C, but it works at much lower temps. The unit is fairly robust, the fan is well made, if anything the unit could be a little on the light side, but its so compact, this will fit on any stove. Its also something of a talking point, as its a mystery to some how it works. With no batteries! 2 year warranty, which is good, and I think, we’ll be putting less wood on the stove, and that’s what really matters. Burning logs at the correct temperature results in reduced build-up inside the flue, less smoke and ensures you get the maximum output from the fuel you’re putting in, so a thermometer can be a useful tool in getting to know your stove. Submersible Pumps - Fountain & Pond Miscellaneous and Transfer Pumps Pump Accessories Pump Controllers & Switches Hose Hose Clips Couplers, Valves & Filters Washdown Pump KitsThe magnetic thermometer indicates the optimum burn temperature for your stove ensure the most effective and efficient heating results Both the blades and base of this stove fan are constructed from premium anodised aluminium, making the fan highly resistant to rust and corrosion. The fan begins to operate when the base reaches 65°C. The optimum operating range is a respectable 85°C to 350°C. The six-blade design provides impressively high power, offering twice the power of regular three-blade stove fans. Overall, given Valiant’s sterling reputation and world class customer service, the Valiant Premium stove fan is highly recommended, though again, unless you have a fairly large room to move the air around, it may well be the case that this is actually more fan than you need. It’s a bit pricier than other models, but this is definitely a case of getting what you pay for.
