About this deal

The f/2 aperture is fairly modest for this type of lens, being a third of an f/stop slower than that of more typical f/1. Now it’s nothing like a Lomo lens that produces images that look as if they’ve been run through an Instagram filter. I am not a portrait photographer and really, creamy bokeh and a narrow depth of field are less important to me than to many photographers.

Thanks to its slim feel and no-fuss build, it’s also perfect for throwing (gently) into a backpack to take on adventures. The aspherical elements are positioned, so the image plane is flat, providing edge-to-edge sharpness. For your normal day-to-day shooting or as a travel lens, you would be hard-pressed to tell any noticeable difference. was a fine aid for me these last couple of years, and if I'm honest, I did think it was a little large compared the cameras I was using it on, but it did a great job. For the average street photographer, the difference is minuscule and not quite worth the much higher cost of the f1.There are some complaints that the cap pops off the lens, so some people have opted to remove the lens hood altogether. What makes this lens great is the absurdly close minimal focus distance 22 centimetres and the studiness of it. This is something you will notice a great deal if you want to create subject separation because you’re going to have to get really close to your subject. Of course, the depth of field was still in the shot even though the in-camera scale was incorrect but it’s nice to know you can use this scale when setting up your shots moving forward.

Writing about a great lens is usually like writing about a great automatic transmission in a car: the biggest compliment is that there’s not that much to tell about it. It’s perfect for beginner photographers, ideal for bloggers, and is a must for street photographers. With the lens hood attached you can see the lens in the bottom corner of the OVF but it just barely touches the corner of the 23mm frameline.

The Fuji X-T3 with the 23mm F2 WR is a system I can rely on in any occasions: bright sunny days, cloudy days, rainy days and at night.I am very happy to have the possibility to change my lenses, even though I have the 23mm F2 99% of the time mounted on my X-T3. You can whip it out and take romantic photos in the soft summer drizzle or get amazing shots of snow falling in the streets. I have been asked so many times recently about the depth of field difference between the XF23mm F2 and the XF23mm F1. The diffraction spikes from the newer XF 23mm f2 here are a little sharper and better-defined than the older model, delivering an attractive effect.
