MY REVIEW: Hurrah! The new year can now officially begin, because we have a brand spanking new read from Jill Mansell to devour. No worries, I’m fine. I’m in someone’s kitchen,’ Lou said cheerfully. ‘We met in the supermarket car park, then he broke his glasses so I had to drive him home.’ No, I’d just like to sit here like a lemon for the next twenty-four hours. Of course I want you to help me up.’

Jill Mansell’s books are always perfect beach reads. Nice and cheesy love stories, including a lot of side characters with their own love stories. The characters are all so well developed and they are not all perfect either they each have their flaws, may that be with our grumpy old Edgar who many find rude or the lovable Lou who although hardworking and caring only took Edgar up on his offer for her own gain but she was not the only one. I had such conflicted thoughts and emotions throughout this storyline, how I could love a character so much but not be onboard with their actions. Apart from her well-received recognition she has won awards to show of her work. In 2011 her novel ‘Take A Chance On Me’ won the Romantic Comedy prize, an award which was issued by the Romantic Novels Association. The book was described as humorous and delightful as it scooped the award. When she’d finished scrubbing the floor, she said, ‘Look, why don’t you write out an advert and let me put it in the newsagent’s window for you? I can do it when I leave here. Get yourself someone who can come and tidy the house up once or twice a week, how does that sound?’Outside, it was a bright but blustery August afternoon and the old man was still making his way slowly across the car park. As Lou paused at the exit, wondering whether to break into the doughnuts now, she saw him brush past a dilapidated van with its crumpled bumper hanging off. Then there is Rosa, Layla's mum who has the most amazing job, even if she can be a bit too kind hearted at times. The business she set up for herself sounds rather unique, definitely bespoke and I wonder if anyone has ever come up with this in the real world.

I waited too long for both parties to come to their senses! Just because of extra unnecessary angsty, heartbreaking, long chapters, I cut some points and I gave three still I truly enjoyed this book but I wish it could be less angsty more romantic stars. ( by the way I also enjoyed the side stories of residents of Elliscombe but I think I wanted to concentrate on Didi and Shane’s second chance love story)If you like flushed out reads with three-dimensional protagonists, and emotionally meaningful love stories w/ a dash of smut and spice: this book is not for you. Edgar's final decision was supposed to redeem him for making other decisions out of spite...it doesn't.
