About this deal

Meaco claims that its MeacoDry ABC dehumidifiers have noise-reducing technology, making this the most suitable range for smaller properties where noise is likely to be irritating. Several have Quiet Mark accreditation. With its powerful 18 litre extraction rate, it’s built for homes of 3-4 bedrooms or up to five people. Quietness It's also able to detect changes caused by bathing, making tea, weather or cooking, and then decide whether the machine should be turned on or off. This reduces energy usage. You also don't need to constantly worry about whether to switch it on. In Air Purifying mode the dehumidifier stops extracting moisture from the air but continues to pull air through the unit where it is filtered

It’s rated to extract 21 litres per day at 32°C and 90% relative humidity. At UK temperatures the machine will extract a lot less, but enough to control the humidity of a large family home as described in the paragraph above. As with all refrigerant dehumidifiers, the machine will extract less and less water as the temperature drops, so try to keep your home above 15°C to get the best out of it. Having said that, Ebac say that the unit will keep working down to 3°C and as you’d expect, there’s an automatic defrost setting that will switch on with increasing frequency as the temperature drops to maintain the efficiency of the unit. The Ebac 3850e dehumidifier is an excellent choice for large homes. It can rapidly remove large amounts of moisture from the air (at least at room temperature or above), while minimising energy usage. As it’s over 10 years old, the Ebac doesn’t come with some of the advanced features seen on newer models. It also doesn’t include a laundry mode, although a boost option is available.

This is a powerful refrigerant dehumidifier so it was never likely to threaten the quietest models available, however, the (new?) compressor in the 3850e is refined and very quiet while dehumidifying, probably quieter than its less powerful predecessors. In fan-only mode the dehumidifier is slightly louder than its preceding models at 46dB versus 44dB, but this is due to it being more powerful and isn’t a noticeable difference. While the appearance of the 2650e is functional rather than stylish, it’s not an ugly dehumidifier. It has a hidden water tank that’s accessed by the front panel, which provides a smoother appearance than some of its competitors. There's also an Ultra Low Energy refrigerant dehumidifier ('Dehumidryer') with a 25-litre capacity. Smart mode is something that will help to keep power bills down and is something you don’t see in other dehumidifiers on the market

We are currently living in a stone house from the 1870s just at the entrance to the Peak District in Derbyshire. The humid issues that face our home are very different from those faced by someone living in Key West Florida or Point Pedro in Sri Lanka or any of the other most humidcities on earth. Whilst the UK isn’t as bad as many places on earth for humid issues, the combination of continuous rain and old houses can create major problems in the home. Most dehumidifiers set the humidity preference either as a specific % of humidity like we saw in the Honeywell dehumidifiers or a set range like we saw in the Delonghi dehumidifiers. Automatic defrost. If the coils start to freeze, the 2650e will automatically defrost while minimising wasted energy. Air Purification Mode. The Ebac includes an air purification mode. When activated, this stops the dehumidifier and instead focuses on removing allergens and other particles from the air. Unfortunately, you can’t run the air purification system at the same time as removing moisture, which makes this function of limited use. The dehumidifier then acts to prevent damp and condensation building up – before they become a problem Auto shut off. When the dehumidifier is full it automatically switches off and displays a warning light.

The Ebac 3850e is a dehumidifier designed to reduce the humidity levels in indoor spaces. With a water tank capacity of 2.5 liters, it is capable of extracting excess moisture from the air, making it suitable for rooms with a volume of up to 210 cubic meters. The dehumidifier has a compact design, with dimensions measuring 325 millimeters in width, 275 millimeters in depth, and 502 millimeters in height. It weighs approximately 13,000 grams. You can also arrange a virtual 10-minute demo by an expert advisor at Ebac to show you the various features of the products and ask questions. The dimensions of the 2650e are 34 x 54.5 x 26.5cm (WxHxD). It’s not the bulkiest dehumidifier we’ve reviewed but it’s also not compact – especially in terms of height and depth. For comparison, the smallest desiccant dehumidifiers can be almost 10cm thinner and shorter. This isn’t a complaint, as the large water tank and powerful compressor naturally require more space, but it’s worth keeping in mind if you want to place the machine in a small room. But not to worry, I got my trusted energy power meter to see how much actual energy is being used at different modes. One of the most important factors when choosing a dehumidifier is energy efficiency. For this reason, Ebac has included their “Smart Technology” with the 3850e. This is effectively an “auto” mode that monitors the environmental conditions to detect when the dehumidifier needs to be turned on. One of the advantages of the 2650e is that it comes with Ebac’s Smart Control system. This, according to Ebac, improves on the standard humidistat feature found on many dehumidifiers by increasing energy efficiency. Once turned on, the dehumidifier will monitor the air humidity and only start working when needed.
