About this deal

manages to be not only instructive and, at times, extremely amusing, but also to remain remarkably faithful to the cheery, bucolic spirit of the original. Plot: Counselling for Toads was a really interesting book which I spotted on the shelf of an a shelf in an adorable holiday cottage which I stayed in over the summer.

It is easy to understand, though sometimes it appears the author is writing more to explain TA than keeping in the spirit of Wind in the Willows.

He used to care a lot about his appearance, but now he wraps himself in a sweater with grease stains on it. His good friends do not understand that people with depression can lack motivation and physical strength; and even eating can be difficult. He feels that he does not deserve it, that he hasn't done a decent job, and he has made a mess of his life.

My only criticism really is that the book was short and I was eager to explore more of the counselling method. This book was recommended by my therapist as we are nearing the end of our sessions and coming to my maintaining stage. Whilst each ego state has its value for living, only the adult one—the one that enables us to deal with the reality happening here-and-now—gives you strength and courage to assert your own authority and act independently. While much of the information offered in Counselling For Toads was familiar to me there was also much in it which made me go " oh yeah, that's why" about myself.Under the guidance of his counsellor, Toad comes to understand that these are all possible causes of his depression, but the root cause comes from his family of origin. Toad meets his inner “rebellious child” and his “adult self” during the ten sessions that make up the chapters of this book. The attention and care we get from our friends can also make us feel comforted in those dark moments.

Friendly introduction to the ideas behind counselling, suitable for voluntary organizations, schools, social work departments, hospitals, etc. Imagine that you live on a small planet with two giants, and you depend on them for food, water, and emotional support. The book offers a number of lifelong social rules that break down the way people think about social behavior. When Toad is persuaded by his friend to try counseling, Heron, the counsellor, does not directly point out the reason for Toad's bad mood.
