About this deal

I read this over Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed it - although I really wanted photos of that crap drawer and gallery wall! Hughes' weighing in on the over-saturated 'organise your life by tidying' market also fell a little flat for me; although her family background does leave her eminently qualified to comment, it wasn't saying anything particularly new.

I also found it a comforting and uncomplicated read during a time of heavy turmoil in global affairs. Maybe if you are very interested in Sali Hughes the media personality you will like this book (much like I enjoyed Whisky in a Teacup, mainly because of its appeal as Reese Witherspoon merch). as a fan of Sali’s for YEARS, I knew I had to purchase, but I didn’t actually know just how much I NEEDED this book.I also love the personable way in which the book is written - Sali's approach feels direct, genuine and with a sharp sense of humour. This book opens with Home tips, but you can get these elsewhere from experts online, or perhaps you have copies of Laura de Barra's books already. Sali covers a wide range of categories, this is everything you need to know to get through life from Sali's experiences. I bought this book thinking I’d dip in and out of it occasionally, but once I started reading it I got so absorbed I read it cover to cover over a few days.

Sali Hughes offers striking good sense home; food and drink, fashion; health and beauty; life and finances; friends, relationships and family.I enjoyed Sali Hughes’ first couple of books - which genuinely shared useful information drawn from her expertise and experience as a beauty journalist, make up artist and beauty fan. There are far too few handy hints and far too much of her personal anecdotes which add little to the content. Got sick of competing with people wanting to take it out of the library, had to keep taking it back and waiting for it to be available again. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The Friends and Relationships chapter was interesting because if you follow Sali you might know bits of her personal life so I'm sure some of the advice is based on personal experience.

She was generous with her words and time when signing afterwards and softly spoken but set in her opinions. There's very little cohesion, jumping from tip to tip, serious to frivolous and would leave you relying on the index to ever find something again. Those who enjoy Sali's writing are no doubt of an age where they have learned 99% of what is included in this book already. She's also strong when writing about fashion and clothes, and if the book had focused only on those elements it would have been a strong 4 stars from me.It reminds me of various ‘Girls’ Handbook’ type books I had when I was young, but much less prescriptive. After finishing this book I am not sure what exactly it is meant to be - an interior design manual, a cookbook, a style and fashion guide.
