Are the Citadel Texture Paints Worth It? Citadel Texture Paint – easy to apply, simple and fast. But, expensive? Are you trying to find an alternative to Agrellan Earth or Astrogranite? In general, there are two kinds of Citadel Texture Paints. Games Workshop makes these two textures in different colors, but in general, they function in just two classifications. But, there are three good reason for why Citadel textured products are popular and worth the investment. Simplicity, efficiency, and reliability.

If you have a normal size mini that would look a bit off sinking into dried earth, then you should consider pinning it to the base. Simply use your pin vise to drill a hole through your base and a matching small hole into the heel of your mini. Insert a small brass rod into the heel of your mini gluing it into place with strong glue. Then pass the rod through the hole that you glued into the base. Trim it to length with your nippers and then glue it to hold your mini. Add in about Vallejo Model Colour Iraqi Sand to your Beige Brown. Try about 1 part Iraqi to 9 parts brown and give it a whirl. By whirl I mean a standard drybrush. STEP NINE: DRYBRUSH 3: DRY BRUSH WITH A VENGEANCE In addition, I thought the surface of the dried Mordant Earth was just too smooth and shiny for what I had in mind. It was far more pāhoehoe than ʻaʻā. It looked frankly like a hard chocolate coating which just made me need to get some ice cream while I pondered what I was going to do next. What Went Wrong, and How to Do It Better Genestealers Cult – The Agrellan Earth paint is perfect for painting the strange, hybrid appearance of the Genestealers Cult. Its muted tones can be used to represent the cult’s infiltration into various planetary populations, and its natural hues can be used to accentuate the otherworldly appearance of the Genestealers themselves. I use desert basing on my Adeptus Titanicus army, which is the Legio Astorum. They fought at the Battle of Tallarn (hence the little Ultramarines, Imperial Fists, and Iron Warriors who also feature) which was virus bombed by the Iron Warriors during the Horus Heresy, turning it into a desert world. I should state right up front here that I didn’t develop this technique myself – SA goon General Olloth taught me it and I have copied it shamelessly for your consumption.

They are designed to give your miniatures a unique look and texture, with a wide variety of colors and textures available. Popular Citadel texture paints for basing miniatures. There are also tons of ways of spicing up this style of base. Tiny grass tufts, skulls, or spare weapons scattered about will all make these bases stand out even more. Maybe add tiny ponds, swamps, or putrid green bile-pools. The sky’s the limit! Well, the desert is, but still. Wasteland-Style Goodbyes Agrellan Earth paint from Citadel Colour is a versatile, earthy brown color that provides a sturdy foundation for miniature painting projects. Its matt finish creates a natural, grounded look that complements a wide range of other hues. Whether you’re working on infantry, tanks, or machinery, Agrellan Earth is a versatile color that can form the cornerstone of many unique and memorable colour palettes. What armies to paint with Agrellan Earth I recently got it in my head to make some lava bases for a new army – cooled bits of stone over hot molten magma. While poking around the internet on how to make them look good I noted a recent(ish) Citadel Technical paint – Mordant Earth. But a test base had some strange results so I thought I’d document my experimentation with it and other methods for the benefit of you, gentle reader.

This gives you a lot of freedom to experiment! You can go for the plain, empty wasteland style, or use scrub bushes and trees, and a wide range of colours. Below are a number of techniques our authors use to create their own desert bases – you can try using them, or take them as inspiration for your own.

You’ll want extremely thin, yet even coverage of Tyrant Skull across the entire base, as that’s what gives it that “pop” at a distance. True to this tradition, the worlds of Warhammer have featured deserts heavily. The famous Battle of Tallarn in the Horus Heresy takes place on the the eponymous planet, turned into an irradiated wasteland by the Iron Warriors. In the Old World, the lands of Araby and Khemri were based on North Africa and the Middle East, which have a large number of desert and semi-desert regions, and of course the Mortal Realms contain all kinds of locales – Aqshy, the Realm of Fire, is an obvious choice for a desert landscape, but any realm could feature them. Ghur is home to the Bone Desert for example.

When it comes to pairing Citadel Colour paints with Agrellan Earth, a neutral green shade, it is all about finding the right balance of complementary, split-complementary, and analogous hues to create depth, highlights and shadows in your miniature painting. To achieve this, here are three Citadel Colour paints that pair well with Agrellan Earth: Maybe you’re looking to find a cheaper replacement for Stirland Mud or my favorite, Agrellan Badlands.

Tyranids – With its muted, natural hues, Agrellan Earth is an ideal choice for painting the organic, insectoid appearance of the Tyranids. Whether you’re painting Hive Tyrants, Warriors, or Gaunts, this paint provides the perfect foundation for bringing the Tyranids to life on the battlefield. Premixed sanded tile grout comes in many colors. If you don’t want to paint your bases, you can simply buy the color you like. For example, you can buy an ivory colored grout for sand bases, or a white colored grout for snow bases. Off again to the internet and I found a video on Warhammer TV suggesting to put down ‘Ardcoat on top of the paint rather than PVA. Same principle I suppose and a good place to start. And should the PVA be above or below the paint? I broke down a number of test scenarios and set about to see what would look best. All of these bases were primed with Wraithbone first, all references to “paint” are a splotched mix of Mephiston Red, Vallejo Light Orange, and Vallejo Flat Yellow. Here’s what I inflicted on each one: If your mini is one that would be hefty and sink into the ground like a troll or dragon, you can place it on the base after you paint it but before you apply the Agrellan Earth. This will give it the look of sinking into the dry brittle ground a little bit.Note here, that the brand alternative are from the Vallejo Texture Gel range which also offers an array of textured mediums to add context and thematic interest to your miniatures and models. Take a closer look at Vallejo, if you’re looking to expand beyond Games Workshop offerings. Are Citadel Technical Paints Expensive? Do a nice, light coat. We only need and ok seal/shade from this and we also want to preserve as much detail from the texture paints as possible. STEP FIVE: LAYER IT ON, LIKE THE THEME OF THESE BALLER STEP TITLES
