I'd be interested to read something else by the author, but maybe set in a different era - it would be good to see how he uses a more contemporary world to make social/economic/political observations. The novel was a little slow at times and occasionally lacked a little narrative drive, but the plot ends were all resolved satisfactorily. The characters are very well drawn and even minor ones, such as the three year old daughter of one of them, are three dimensional and convincing. The upstairs bathroom is a real bonus as so often the bathrooms are downstairs in this style of property.
