When 4 out of 5 teen overdoses happen in a residence, that’s the rule, not the exception. We need to be prepared for an unlikely emergency, just like having a fire extinguisher.

A loud, compact alarm with a flashing strobe light. On top of being practical, this alarm is sleek, durable, and hard for others to twist off. I think this is best for big cities and travel. Where to start? Therapy is fantastic if you’re noticing symptoms, but if you’re looking for home options or to be proactive, I’m a big fan of apps to teach basic CBT skills and mindfulness techniques. There are a number of good options, but two of my favorites are Sanvello ( www.sanvello.com) and Headspace ( www.headspace.com), respectively. It’s easy to navigate and I didn’t experience any connection issues. The extra safety features are extremely useful The MR16 lamp has a dichroic reflector which does not reflect heat along with light – the heat dissipates through the reflector and out of the rear of the light fitting. This means the beam from a birdie is much cooler than that from a standard theatre lantern, making it much more suitable for sensitive areas (e.g. museums, old buildings). Remember, never use any substance when you are alone (tell a friend you are taking something!) and that friend should always know where the naloxone (Narcan) is.
