Remote Viewing and Computer Communications: An Experiment." Journal of Scientific Exploration, vol. 2, no. 1 (1988) pp.13–27. ISSN 0892-3310. Not only that, he considered science had to be separated from religion, thus being a precursor of the Enlightenment, a millenia before it started.

Improved instrumental techniques, including isotopic analysis, applicable to the characterization of unusual materials with potential relevance to aerospace forensics," with Garry P. Nolan, Sizun Jiang, Larry G. Lemke. Progress in Aerospace Sciences, vol. 128 (Jan. 2022). doi: 10.1016/j.paerosci.2021.100788. ISSN 0376-0421. Passport to Magonia, with its well-reasoned theories, builds a bridge of considerations between the sightings and visitation stories of the past and the ones occurring in the present. Upon its release, some explorers of the weird simply couldn’t take it. The book was regarded not only as a radical departure, but as a betrayal by Vallee (8). Thankfully, that’s not so much the case today. Vallee admits that a few holdouts continue to completely reject his theories, but others are approaching ufology with more open minds: “Inspired by the notion of a link between ancient stories preserved by historians and the ‘modern folklore’ of UFO reports, a new generation of researchers has emerged, eager to advance the knowledge of the nature and impact of the observations” (9). Sheaffer, Robert. "New X-Files Renews Cover-Up Conspiracy Claims." Skeptical Inquirer, vol. 40, no. 3 (May 2016): 14–15. (subscription required). In the 70’s, Vallee served as one of the Principal investigators of DARPA and led the team which built the world's first software collaboration system, running on Arpanet, the prototype for the Internet. Joining Stanford Research Institute and the Institute for the Future in Silicon Valley, Vallee formed friendships with Hal Puthoff, Russell Targ, and Kit Green and consulted on SRI’s classified remote viewing programs (including the Stargate Project), which were supported by several government agencies. In 1978, Vallee was part of a panel of experts (which included NASA Astronaut Gordon Cooper, Dr. J. Allen Hynek, military and government officials) that presented a plan for UFO research at the United Nations. The Heart of the Internet: An Insider's View of the Origin and Promise of the On-line Revolution. Charlottesville, VA: Hampton Roads Pub. Co. (2003). ISBN 978-1571743695. Jacques Fabrice Vallée ( French: [ʒak fabʁis vale]; born September 24, 1939) is an Internet pioneer, computer scientist, venture capitalist, author, ufologist and astronomer currently residing in San Francisco, California and Paris, France.

And for those who are interested in continuing the conversation, save yourself some time : you can keep to yourself your credentialism (“but he has a PhD and was in a Spielberg movie”, irrelevant to the fallacies, forgeries, bad reasoning he provided in the rest of his career), your concerns about age (“how dare you criticize an old man”, irrelevant... and yes i had those in the past), your ad hominem, all your cult of personality instincts or the fact that “you made too many friends in the UFO community for you to criticize it” (not kidding, someone literally said this to me once in this very subreddit). He seems to know nothing of convergent evolution (dolphins and sharks, etc). He also jumps to conclusions : too similar therefore non material therefore psychic. I shouldn’t need to write anymore after such a dishonest depiction of a source, but know that as an inspiration, Vallée quotes a XVIIth century author named Henri de Montfaucon de Villars : The Edge of Reality: A Progress Report on Unidentified Flying Objects – Jacques Vallée and Dr. J. Allen Hynek (Quality Books, 1975) Vallée uses a story debunked in the very and only source by the very author of the source, using a parody he can’t even understand !

A Century of UFO Landings (1868-1968)

In his treatise Agobard complains that in his region it is widely believed that there is a land called Magonia whose inhabitants travel the clouds in ships and work with Frankish tempestarii ("tempest-raisers" or weather-magi) to steal grain from the fields during (magically raised) storms. [1] He denounces such beliefs as ignorant and refutes them with many quotations from Scripture, to prove that God alone causes hail and thunder.

Report from the Field: Scientific Issues in the UFO Phenomenon (presentation). George Washington University (November 8, 2002). Crop Circles: 'Signs' From Above or Human Artifacts? Some personal speculations on a fractal theme." ufocasebook.com. Reviewing the Weird: Haunted Colleges & Universities of Massachusetts by Renee Mallett October 31, 2021 This is the only genuinely intelligent book on the flying saucer/ UFO myth that appears to have been written. However, even the most casual of UFOlogists may find this legendary piece disappointing. Almost every major case Vallee cites has been reported elsewhere, so there is no major revelation in this. The magic lies in Vallee's own interpretation of the data tying it into earlier myths specifically of fairies, goblins, and even religious miracles suggesting that something other than extraterrestrial visitors is going on.Vallée is also an important figure in the study of unidentified flying objects (UFOs), first noted for a defense of the scientific legitimacy of the extraterrestrial hypothesis and later for promoting the interdimensional hypothesis. He reminds us of our inability to understand the accounts even as he seeks to understand them. Futility, thy name is Passport to Magonia? In 1979, Robert Emenegger and Alan Sandler updated their 1974 UFOs: Past, Present, and Future documentary with new 1979 footage narrated by Jacques Vallée. The updated version is entitled UFOs: It Has Begun. Estimates of Optical Power Output in Six Cases of Unexplained Aerial Objects with Defined Luminosity Characteristics." Journal of Scientific Exploration, vol. 12, no. 3 (1998) pp.345–358. ISSN 0892-3310.
