Ask the team to brainstorm items that propel them forward and place them on the canvas above the water line. These are the “wind in their sails” or the “speedboat motor”. A moving recount of how Tran and her family immigrated from a small town in Vietnam to a two-bedroom railroad apartment in Queens, and how she forged her path in a new culture." On the landscape of nail salons and her family’s sweat shop, Ly Tran paints the songs of her courage, dreams, and her fight for sanity and humanity. This is the story of a magnificent lotus who rises up from a pond of mud – the mud of poverty, racism, inherited trauma, depression – with the power and radiance of her storytelling. This is a book that demands us to look beyond just the name of each and every war refugee. This is a book that gives us light.” Try taking a practice nail tech and/or manicurist exam online. You can find one for your state or a general practice exam. For example, you can try the New York Nail Technician state board exam here: https://cosmetologypracticetest.guru/new-york-nail-technician-license/. Some crazed lunatic will now come at you in a bulldozer. You can slow him down by shooting him as you run, but it's unnecessary - just sprint straight down the trench and you should make it with room to spare.

This memoir provides me with a perspective through the lens of my sister and I can't tell everyone how much I appreciate her for putting in these years of efforts. We'll get told to go up to Benson's office, as we'll follow the co-worker up there. Look at the desk before we leave the room. There are several chapters where water or oceans are featured, such as “Water and Angels,” “In the Swim,” and the final chapter, “Almost There.” What role do oceans and water play throughout the book on a metaphoric and literal level? This is at times a difficult story but I found it gave me new insights on the immigrant experience from a very different view point . I do recommend it.

In the Screening Room, located within the building to your left, examine the desk to the right of the projector in the center of the room to reveal the clue Beautiful and emotionally vivid. I was mesmerized by this memoir. Not only is Ly Tran's writing captivating, but her story is full of such vulnerability and honesty that I couldn't help but become instantly absorbed in her book. I recommend this if you are interested in the intersections between financial hardship, mental health, and the immigrant experience in America. Content warnings included in spoiler section. As we arrive and are in control, we'll have to hop over the gate to enter. Take a look at the lumber on the ground to the right. There were many aspect’s of Ly’s story which, to me, demonstrated the importance of educating children outside of standard subjects/topics. For example, the importance of teaching emotional intelligence, sex education (i.e. what is and is not appropriate and how to speak up if something bad happens to you), and allowing students to have social experiences through adolescence (so they can learn how to navigate those situations). Ly’s story also highlights the stifling effects of what I interpreted to be imposter syndrome - which she first seems to encounter in high school but becomes much more debilitating in college. In the chapter “A Lazy, No-Good Daughter,” Ly’s teacher Ms. Walsh calls the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) to report Ly’s parents for child neglect since her father refuses to allow Ly to get glasses. This triggers Ly’s father’s PTSD, widens the rift between her and her parents, and worsens her own mental health. Still, Ms. Walsh says, “If I had to do it again, I would.” Discuss the source of the conflict here and if there could have been a better outcome. What would you have done in Ms. Walsh’s position? In Ly’s?

Ly Tran is just a toddler in 1993 when she and her family emigrate from a small town along the Mekong River in Vietnam to a two-bedroom railroad apartment in Queens. Ly’s father, a former lieutenant in the South Vietnamese army, spent nearly a decade as a POW, and their resettlement is made possible through a humanitarian program run by the US government. Soon after they arrive, Ly joins her parents and three older brothers in sewing ties and cummerbunds piecemeal on their living room floor to make ends meet. As they navigate this new landscape, Ly finds herself torn between two worlds. She knows she must honor her parents’ Buddhist faith and contribute to the family livelihood, working long hours at home and then later as a manicurist alongside her mother at a nail salon in Brownsville, Brooklyn, which her parents eventually take over. But at school, Ly feels the mounting pressure to blend in. This beautifully written “masterclass in memoir” ( Elle) recounts a young girl’ s journey from war-torn Vietnam to Queens, New York, “showcas[ing] the tremendous power we have to alter the fates of others, step into their lives and shift the odds in favor of greater opportunity” ( Star Tribune, Minneapolis).T h ere will always be o bstacles (l ike the hung ry wolf) for us to face, and we need to choose how best to manage them. Beautiful and emotionally vivid. I was mesmerized by this memoir. Not only is Ly Tran's writing captivating, but her story is full of such vulnerability and honesty that I couldn't help but become instantly absorbed in her book. I recommend this if you are interested in the Do you like it?: If you are going to hire a company to produce a video asset, make sure you like the videos they make. Most likely if it captivates you – it will captivate your customers.
