Director of Licensing at The Pokémon Company International, Mathieu Galante commented ‘We are always looking for fantastic partners that we can create unique and joyful experiences with for Pokémon fans, and we have genuinely found that in working with the Van Gogh Museum. There is a strong link between the inspiration behind Pokémon and the inspiration behind some of Vincent Van Gogh’s most famous work. With this collaboration we really hope that we can see children discovering and immersing themselves into the world of art through the incredible works of Van Gogh and Pokémon.’Pokémon Center × Van Gogh Museum: Pikachu Inspired by Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat Canvas Wall Art This isn’t the first time that The Pokemon Company has collaborated with a famous museum. In 2018, Pokemon collaborated with the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum between October 27 and January 20, 2019. Go on a Pokémon Adventure along Van Gogh's paintings and discover the stories about the masterpieces. Follow the clues, complete the quest, and hand in your answers for a special Pikachu x VanGogh Museum promo card to add to your Pokémon collection (subject to availability). Cashews Regrettably art has always been about commercialism to some extent—not 'outsider art' but that is a different topic of discussion. Capitalism is the substrate on which the world runs. As the philosopher Zizek says, "Its easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism". All writers want to be read, just as all artists want to be seen—it's a foundational quality of human nature—to want to be seen. Capitalism eats everything, devours it, then regurgitates some new fangled rendition. Granted, the results vary but sometimes we have to make do with what we get. If a child goes to the VG museum because of Pokemon, then goes home interested in VG's work and it inspires them to continue investigating, I count that as a victory. Capitalism is a dire state of existence no doubt but it's all there is. I've taught the arts for decades and what I've learnt is that the most important thing is to just get the student through the door—once they are inside you have the opportunity to nurture that initial curiosity and help it grow. Emilie Gordenker, General Director of the Van Gogh Museum commented: ‘This collaboration will allow the next generation to get to know Vincent van Gogh’s art and life story in a refreshing way. The Van Gogh Museum and The Pokémon Company International have drawn on many years of educational expertise to create a special experience for children, their supervisors, and we hope many others at the Van Gogh Museum.’

A Pokémon Adventure leaflet will lead visitors along the works by Vincent van Gogh that served as inspiration for the paintings in the six-piece special presentation, Pokémon at the Van Gogh Museum.
