There are a lot of laugh-out-loud moments in this book. I loved Humza's attitude and 'voice' and thought the dynamic between him and Umer was particularly strong. The illustrations by Aleksei Bitskoff are great too and further make it a brilliant book for reluctant readers. Little Badman follows the story of 11 year old rapper Humza Khan who becomes suspicious when his school teachers begin to disappear and are replaced by evil aunties. [48] [49] Honours, awards and recognition [ edit ] Alongside the outrageous antics, whip-smart dialogue, and Little Badman’s irrepressiblepersonality, there’s a wonderful grandfather-grandson relationship and representation ofLittle Badman’s engagement with Pakistan. Full marks! But when the aunties start to mess with his music, enough is enough! With the help of his friends Umer and Wendy, Humza must get to the bottom of what’s going on, and fast! Can he stop the aunties before they carry out their evil plan? We sure hope so!I had my ten year old read it and he thought it was ok, but was uncomfortable with the language, which I was glad, but I told him I thought he could handle it, and know what is appropriate to use. That being said, school libraries should have the book, maybe not classroom libraries though, and I probably wouldn’t do it as a book club. I will have my other kids read it though, cause like I said, it is silly and fun. Praise for Little Badman and the Invasion of the Killer Aunties, one of The Guardian's 100 best holiday books for 2019 Brit Asian 'Badman' comedy star announces tour". BBC News. 30 December 2020. Fast-paced and funny, readers are immediately swept into Humza’s world and really feel for him and his various troubles, like his super-strict dad and adults not listening properly. Full of action and humour, but perhaps best of all is how Humza grows and changes through the story, and gets his dad to too.
