About this deal

Eye AF does a great job of detecting a subject’s eye in a scene, and following it even when the face moves around. Again, this is probably not a camera that will be used extensively by professional portrait photographers, but for those who take family snapshots, this kind of feature can prove invaluable.

The Z50 uses a new EN-EL25 battery. It's a small 8.5Wh unit but one that can be charged over the camera's USB connector. Being able to tilt the screen is handy, but the fact that it tilts from the bottom of the camera means you can’t use it with a tripod. It’s fine for selfies, but much less useful for those intending to use the camera for vlogging. As for dimensions, the Z50 is essentially a miniaturized Z6. It retains a deep grip and decent handling while only being 126.5 x 93.5 x 60mm, as compared to the Z6’s dimensions of 134 x 100.5 x 67.5mm. Before we go into the camera details, let’s see how the Z50 compares to its Nikon F counterparts and direct competitors on the market. Nikon Z50 vs D3500 vs D5600 and D7500 Comparison It could be that you prefer the beefier, bulkier Z6 in terms of handling, but it’s hard to deny the Z50’s appeal as a travel-friendly camera. Speaking of which, the viewfinder, while smaller and lower in resolution than those found on the Z6 and Z7, is still very usable and comfortable to use – and if you’ve never used a full-frame Z Series model you’re unlikely to feel that you're missing out. It’s also on a par with cameras from rival brands that compete closely with the Z50, such as the Fujifilm X-T30, which uses a similar 0.39-inch, 2360k-dot device. Until Nikon rolls out high-performance DX lenses that are small and lightweight, it will continue to lose to Fuji and the more mature camera systems out there. I really hope Nikon is not going to cripple its Z-mount DX system as it has done with its DX DSLR cameras… NIKON Z 50 + NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR @ 50mm, ISO 100, 1/60, f/8.0 Build Quality and Ergonomics Lens Filters Clear UV and Protection Filters Polarising Filters Neutral Density Filters Cokin Creative Filter System Other Filters Filter Stepping Rings Close-Up Lenses Overall, considering the price point of the Nikon Z50 vs its features, it certainly looks like a very appealing camera. Nikon Z50 vs Sony A6400 vs Fuji X-T30 vs Canon EOS M6 Mark II The megapixel count being the big difference between my Z50 and the D850 I used isn't always all that relevant. I did a job last year to photograph a museum's collection of motorcycles and I would certainly rent a higher megapixel camera if I were to do that job now, but for a vast majority of things I shoot 20.9 MP is plenty. These days when most things are being viewed on a tiny phone screen, I feel like megapixel count is even less relevant.Full Frame Cameras Canon EOS-R Full Frame Cameras Nikon Z Full Frame Cameras Full Frame L Mount Cameras Sony Full Frame Cameras Canon EOS DSLR Full Frame Cameras Nikon DSLR Full Frame Cameras Vlogging Cameras Memory Cards & Storage CF Express cards SD Cards Micro SD cards CFexpress cards Compact Flash and CFast cards Card Readers SSD and USB Drives Scanners Binoculars & Scopes Binoculars Scopes Cameras DSLR Cameras Mirrorless Cameras Digital Compact Cameras Video Cameras Compared to the Nikon D3500 and D7500 that have a total of 10 buttons, the Z50 only has 6 total buttons, in addition to the multi-selector OK button. Nikon was able to do this by moving three of the buttons to the touchscreen area. Now, if you want to be able to zoom in / out via the EVF or the LCD, you have to touch the right side of the LCD screen. To transfer your files to your smartphone there’s in-built Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, which works with Nikon’s SnapBridge app. There’s a micro USB port for in-camera charging too, which means you can restore its charge via a portable external battery, although it’s a shame this isn’t the increasingly common USB-C connection type.
