About this deal

But there is more to Max Butcher than the cold, cruel facade he wears like armour. I know; I saw the broken boy inside him one day when we were only children. This group is a safe environment, where readers c Welcome to Some Like It Hot!, a group for those of us who love to read and write romantic fiction. He has a dark intimidating presence, hinting at a life lived hard and fierce. He is a man of few words, but his actions cut straight to the point. Shoshanna is one of the lovely h, no flaws or wrong decisions (which are not) overshadowed her character. I could not stand the way Cassidy spoke. She sounded like a young teenager, which made the steamy parts of this book a little weird.

the H is a 24 yr old bad boy mafia dude, he’s an elusive manwhore when he meets the h, commitment-phobic, but very protective and jealous/possessive of the h and surprisingly romantic - he’s got a vulgar mouth 😅 Bronson's character somehow tells me he has a deep ache and profound grief that makes him mask himself with humor and sarcasm🥺🤧 Bronson - “𝙆𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙚𝙮𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙢𝙚. 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙬𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙢𝙮 𝙂𝙡𝙤𝙘𝙠 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙢𝙮 𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙚 𝙗𝙖𝙗𝙮 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙧.”

You know when you’re reading books and you have a few really good ones but then there’s the ones in between that are mediocre at best…THEN ALONG COMES THE ONE YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR. Yea that’s this book. Max, from the beginning, was an asshole, he knows he's an asshole, but he tries to be the person he knows he wants to be for Cassidy in their own way. One trope I can’t stand and avoid at all costs is the pregnancy trope. The pregnancy usually takes over the storyline, and the lovers seems to lose themselves and their spark and what makes them “them”, but I pushed through and I’m glad I did. The author made sure the characters stayed true to themselves throughout the whole story, and ya know what? I didn’t mind the pregnancy one bit! In fact, it added to the story in such a good way, and I wouldn’t change a thing! Max is the until alpha-hole - tall, dark, and hot as hell. He and his brothers are known as bad news around town, but when Cassidy catches Max’s attention, it’s all she can do to remain en pointe. As for Max, well, he makes no secret about the fact that he doesn’t do monogamy. But the more he sees (or even thinks about) Cassidy with anyone else, the more Max starts re-evaluating his priorities.

But he finds me infuriating. A silly little girl. He wants to keep me out of his business and away from him and other men. He wants to protect my body - protect my innocence. Then there's the business side, Bronson having to deal with enemies and protecting his family which will leave you on the edge of your seat. This is the conclusion to Max and Cassidy’s story here we get to deal with the emotional aftermath of the fallout from book one and both Cassidy and Max are struggling. Cassidy because of what happened and Max because of his failure to keep her safe and the repercussions of all that. I mean, his love is so beautiful it’s almost touchable. He is so beautiful,,,,, crazy, funny, deadly, cute, adoring, vulnerable, possessive, protective, desperate, monster, lover, savior, owner, giver,,, I relish the elevated romance within The Duet as the lines between love, desire, and obsession begin to blur creating an eruption of forbidden passion and ecstasy. Max and Cassidy's relationship is the type of love story that you love to hate, innately they know its bad for them, but like a slut for punishment, they pursue it anyway because in the immortal words of Cassidy, "avoiding conflict to prevent a battle, can often start a war on your heart." All in all, this was a fantastic story about love and the dangers of getting mixed up in the wrong crowd. I wish the book had a little different ending, since there was so much missed, but otherwise it was an absolutely incredible story.

This was so good. I love that it was different; the characters weren't your cliche mafia bad boy and good girl. Max Butcher, notorious bad boy as the community knows him. He is not a relationship type of guy and is proud of it. He is known for his reputation of fighting/boxing. Will this all change when Cassidy comes into his life or will he keep her at an arm's distance. Oh Max, (in a Cassidy voice), the tough mafia heir, who was born into a life he didn’t choose, growing up in the face of brutality, learning and experiencing first hand, from a very young age the darkness and evil that lurks in humanity. If you are anything like me and you fell in love with the Kids of the District in Book # 1- Facing Us, then you'll know that the expectations were pretty high for the sequel. Having gone through the myriad of emotions at the complexity of "Facing Us", I wasn't sure how Nicci Harris would top that but, I was pleasantly surprised to note how different, yet alike the two books were. "Our Thing" was quite a turn from the darkness of "Facing Us" but kept the signature 'contemporary romance' vibe which was enjoyable. You're an asset. Leverage. This is what they do. It's the long game. It doesn't look that bad at first, which is how you miss it. It's a favour. It's a kindness. It's a sponsorship. But then they have claws in every part of your life and one day, you sit up and wonder how you’d gotten in so deep. . ." Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from Book Sirens and am leaving a review voluntarily. Max is notorious for just having lots of causal sex with women, he isn’t one to commit. Cassidy is aware of this and she seems more like the relationship type. She hasn’t yet lost her virginity.

Nicci writes with so much love, passion and emotion with Bronson and Shoshanna it will leave you so emotional.I was completely blown away with this book. If you haven’t read Our Thing you need to read it first. Because this is the second book of Cassidy and Max’s story. For me it wasn't even about what happened, but was about how annoying as shit the characters were 😭- or to put it more ✨eloquently✨: was about how unbelievably immature the characters were barely that far into the story- and how unlikeable they became because of it? I can't get over the fact that she wanted him to forgive her 🧍‍♀️.
