About this deal

Just because we want something, doesn’t necessarily mean that we need it. Whether you actually need an RGBW light, especially a small-sized one really depends on the type of things that you shoot. The kit comes in at 9.2kg / 20.3lbs with everything you need inside the case. I like this design better than the MC 4, as it requires a second case for the cables and accessories. With the MC 12, it’s all in one case, but there is a catch. A: The MC Pro 8-Light Charging Case does not have an integrated battery. Additionally, it is small enough to be a carry-on item when flying. Due to the charging case not having a built-in internal battery, it is flight safe and carry-on friendly. Keep in mind these are not high output lights and work best in darker settings. It’s trial and error to get the look you want, and its fun to design with. The production kit works very well in keeping the MC’s from getting banged up due to the foam insert in the lid that keeps them separated. While the charging pads do take a lot more time to charge, it’s very convenient to top them off.

So now that we have seen how much output and what the Kelvin color temperature accuracy is of the Aputure MC let’s see how it performs when it comes to replicating accurate colors.Compared to the 3,200K-6,500K CCT range of the original MC, the MC Pro has been upgraded to match the same RGBWW chipset found in other full-color fixtures, capable of a color temperature range from 2,000K-10,000K. The MC Pro also maintains Aputure’s benchmark for high-quality color reproduction with CRI/TLCI scores of 96+, an SSI (D56) of 72, and an SSI (Tungsten) of 82. In the case, you will also find two 5V 2A outlets so you can charge a phone or various accessories. It would have been nice to have seen a USB-C outlet on there as well.

The MC Pro offers a variety of lighting modes, including CCT, HSI, xy, RGB, Source, FX, and Custom FX. A power tip is that users can utilize the MC Pro as a portable swatch book using the expansive gel library in Gel mode. Expanded Color The MC features full HSI color control and a CCT range of 3200K-6500K in increments of 100K. HSI Mode

In this graph above the gold bars indicate a perfect D55 source. The Red bars indicate a 5600K source. This lets us compare how close to a perfect 5600K lighting source the Aputure is. A score in the low 70’s is very common for most 5600K LED sources. The Aputure had scores of 78, which is excellent for a 5600K LED light. With the increasing amount of data management and DMX control taking place on professional-level sets, having a set of robust connectivity options has become paramount for any easy-to-integrate filmmaking tool. Having the LumenRadio CRMX chipset built into MC Pro fixtures exponentially simplifies the workflow for professional lighting designers and DMX operators. And with the number of Aputure products featuring CRMX controls constantly growing, MC Pros can be synced together with the other fixtures in your toolkit. As with all Aputure lights, the MC prides itself in its colour rendition, with CRI and TLCI scores of 96+, and SSI scores of 84 in tungsten and 74 in daylight. This is all accomplished by an underlying technology that reproduces colour better and more accurately than ever before: RGBWW.

Need to top off your phone? Lay down the phone in place of the MC light, and it starts charging. As long as your smartphone centers up on the pad, it will charge. Kit Usability The Sidius Mesh and App control are both excellent and if you are working in small crews or as a solo operator it is great to be able to control multiple lights at once. Above you can see the light recorded an output of 121 lx 11.3 (fc) when set at 5600K. Aputure claims an output of 100 lx at 1m, My testing showed that it exceeded that figure. The MC produced a Kelvin color temperature of 5328K. The Superpanel had a CC Index score of 0. The 5328K reading was ok, but I expect better for a 5600K source. One of the great features of the MC4 is the built-in magnets. I really like this implementation, because it makes the light very easy to mount. The magnets are also super strong so you don’t have to worry about the light falling off whatever metal surface you attach it to. Build Quality The hard case offers an organized way of storing all accessories that are included. Includes eight of each Now you can control all of the lights at once where if you make one change it is applied to all of the lights. You can also make changes to individual lights or turn individual lights on or off. With a four or twelve fixture kit you have a lot of options to use them as practicals peppered all over a scene. With the Sidus Link App and mesh feature, you can easily control up to 100 MC lights in a stable environment or treat them as one bank. It’s up to your creativity on how best to use the MC LED light.
