About this deal
In September 1975, Dr Robert Laing lives in a ravaged high-rise tower block, killing a dog and spit-roasting its leg.
As the two girls sift through red herrings and reveal a series of tower block secrets, short snappy sentences and sparkling dialogue will keep readers turning the pages. It just felt so odd that within minutes of them finding a dead body they went to prepare for a doll to test out theories. Nik and Norva are a real delight, one furiously writing her clues and deductions in her note book, the other "feeling it in her waters"! Jackson does a great job of building up the tension with it without making it seem too tense and serious!
Night Mayor Franklefink has vanished from the Transylvanian Express - and it's up to you to solve the case! I know they're kids but if a murder has just happened, shouldn't there be more suspense, more discomfort? In a review for Architects Journal, Laura Mark was impressed by the "fantastic" visuals but noted that it lacked plot. As before, it’s great to see an inner-city crime mystery for kids, as well as two black girl sleuths, and Jackson gives us a twisty, witty novel full of red herrings, sass and adventure. BOOK OF THE MONTH - the much awaited latest installment in this popular diary-style series for ages 7+.
