About this deal

Audiophile performance on a budget – that's the promise of these wired in-ears. They're the entry-level models in Sennheiser's audiophile headphones range, but they still feel reassuringly well made. Sennheiser's CX Sport Wireless earbuds are all about that bass – which is ideal if you're looking for a pair of headphones that will bolster your running performance. The open ear adapters in combination with the Aware EQ settings help to reduce body-borne noise and allow some outside sounds to enter for better situational awareness. In this mode, runners hear fewer distracting noises such as their own heartbeat or footsteps and more of their surroundings, blending their favourite exercise playlist with sounds of nature or the city while improving awareness. Those who prefer their own music in noisy gyms and don't want to be distracted by the busy environment will find peace of mind with the closed ear adapter and Focus EQ settings.

But ultimately, the Sennheiser Sport are better used with just one primary device. Unlike with other earbuds out there that can be connected to 2 devices at the same time, or that can hot swap between devices in their respective eco system, or other earbuds that will jump from one device to another, if another device asks to pair with them… if you want to switch devices with these earbuds, you either gotta do that through their app, or you gotta put them in pairing mode every single time. So these aren’t the most power user friendly earbuds out there. Sound is clear, direct and neutral. The Momentum 4 might have shed a little of the richness that made their predecessors so appealing, but highs are well-honed and mids are pleasingly plump. You can even create ‘Sound Zones’– essentially profiles characterised by specific EQ and noise isolation levels. Each bud has a touch panel on the outside and you can customise four controls on each side – one, two or three taps, or hold. You can control the volume, activate your phone’s smart assistant and turn the buds off using the panel, as well as the usual play/pause and skip. The controls were pretty easy to use on the move, though I often set off the one-touch play/pause control by accident when taking the buds in and out. You can also turn off the controls if this becomes an annoyance.

The Sport True Wireless headphones last nine hours on a charge, and there are a further 18 hours in the case. Nine hours is impressive and up there with the best you’ll find on truly wireless buds, no doubt helped by the larger size of the Sennheiser headphones. Are The Sennheiser Sport True Wireless Headphones Worth It? The HD 250BT might not feature any luxury flourishes, but they're a good-sounding, durable and truly likeable set of budget on-ears. Indeed, they were among the 'best wireless headphones' at the 2022 What Hi-Fi? Awards. But when it comes to overall performance, these earbuds have zero latency across the board when watching movies or videos on your phone whether you’re using an iPhone or an android devices… and when it comes to audio codecs, the Sport have support for SBC, AAC, and APTX. The same as the entry level CX’s. But for comparison sake Sennheiser’s more premium earbuds have support for SBC, AAC, APTX and APTX adaptive. But if you want to take advantage of APTX, you do have to be an android user. The issue is that changing miniature ear tips continuously is not the most convenient thing to do. They roll around, are soft and squishy, slip out of your fingers etc. Do I want to fiddle around with ear tips before I go for a run? Not really, but it's nice that, in theory, I could. I won't, but the option is there. We have state-of-the-art testing facilities in London, Reading and Bath, where our team of experienced, in-house reviewers test the majority of hi-fi and AV kit that passes through our door.

Should you download the Sennheiser Smart Control app?

They are fairly comfortable to wear for extended use too, though after a couple of hours I did start to feel some unwelcome pressure around where the wing sits in the ear. If you are going to wear them for the duration of the nine-hour battery life I’d take the wings off when you weren’t exercising. Sound Quality Having spent some time with the Momentum 2 and the CX 400s, I can definitely say the Sport model delivers on premium sound quality, and match their cousins beat for beat. Like the CX line, these earbuds have strong audio technology with what Sennheiser calls “TrueResponse dynamic, 7 mm diameter drivers”.

The SPORT True Wireless doesn't just stand up to the physical challenges. With a battery life of 9 hours, and another 18 hours with the charging case, it offers uncompromising performance to go the distance. Marlow, April 21, 2022 – The new Sennheiser SPORT True Wireless brings superior audio performance for fitness enthusiasts and athletes no matter how intense the workout. Its unique Adaptable Acoustic feature also offers a choice of open and closed ear adapters, allowing athletes to tailor their listening experience to their sport. Thanks to its secure, customisable fit, the SPORT True Wireless is ready for even the most active challenges - all with the unique Sennheiser sound.

How is the battery?

The highs on the SPORT are pretty standard sounding and they don’t provide too much detail. However, they also don’t detract from the sound in any way. I rarely heard them distort or become harsh, and sometimes heard some surprisingly nice reverb tails and spatial details. Like everything else, the SPORT sculpts the highs to emphasize more essential ranges for the core sound, which is important. The Sennheiser SPORT True Wireless is all about finding the perfect fit. These lightweight headphones (only 6.8 grams per bud) come with six sets of what Sennheiser calls ear adapters (closed/open, small/medium/large) and four 'ear fin' sets (N, S1, S2, S3) to make sure they sit perfectly in your ears. The app also lets you adjust the on-ear control layout, tweak the in-ear sidetone (how much you can hear your own voice on calls), and access a three-band EQ. Aside from its reliance on three bands instead of the usual five, the EQ delivers weak results. Boosting the bass fader to its maximum level, for example, only subtly increases the low-end and causes the digital signal processing (DSP) to step in. Here, the DSP compresses the signal and affects the maximum volume output. It's a little baffling that an audio powerhouse like Sennheiser has among the worst in-app EQs we’ve tested.

Sennheiser Sport True Wireless review: Sporty buds with

Every movement during sports is a challenge for your earbuds fit to keep delivering great sound. For anyone who likes to listen to music while exercising, it's important to be able to concentrate fully on the sport without fear of the earbuds slipping out of place. As all ears are unique in shape and size ‘one fits all’ is not secure, so we have focused on providing a fully customisable solution for maximum wearing comfort and a secure fit.” says David Holm, Sennheiser Sports Product Manager. You can control your music, virtual assistant, and calls by tapping the right or left bud, and using one tap a double tap or a triple tap each does different things. You can use the tap controls as is, or you can customize the touch controls in the Sennheiser Smart Control app. The touch controls worked well and I found the boxier shape of the buds actually helped me hit the touchpad a little more precisely. When you consider the outstanding battery life, detailed sound and competitive price, the latest Momentum over-ears have a lot going for them. The velour earpads are plush, generously sized, and very, very comfortable. The headband isn't quite as comfy, but it doesn't exert undue pressure on your head, and the headphones are fairly light, making them well-suited to long listening sessions.
