About this deal

When I was growing up in Hobart, I had a map of India on my bedroom wall. My mother – my adoptive mother, Mum – had put it there to help me feel at home when I arrived from that country at the age of six to live with them, in 1987. She had to teach me what the map represented – I was completely uneducated and don’t think I even knew what a map was, let alone the shape of India. If you get to the Arsenale, the former shipyard, have a look at the big statue of a lion to the left side of the gate. If you look carefully on the two sides of the lion, you can see some long inscriptions carved on the white stone: the words are in the Runic alphabet used by ancient Scandinavian people. The statue of the lion was originally in Athens and was there when, in the 11th century, an army of Norwegian mercenaries was sent by the Byzantine emperor to put down an insurrection. When Saroo Brierley used Google Earth to find his long-lost home town half a world away, he made global headlines.

Rules for playing dramatic Dread Encounters that reshape the very battlefield and recreate climatic moments from the Arks of Omen saga I’ve been thinking about this day for twenty-five years. Growing up half a world away, with a new name and a new family, wondering whether I would ever see my mother and brothers and sister again. And now here I am, standing at a door near the corner of a run-down building in a poor district of a small, dusty town in central India – the place I grew up – and no-one lives there. It’s empty. The relics of Saint Mark arrived in the lagoon in the early 9th century, and the first representations of the lion as his symbol in Venice date to the 12th century. Yet, it was not until the 1260s that a lion appeared on the Venetian flag. Few life stories involve such impossible odds, incredible love, and sheer determiniation as Saroo Brierley's. For several years after watching 'Slumdog Millionaire', my mind kept returning to these little boys and their heartbreaking story.

Point of ViewThe narrator speaks in the third person and focuses on what the children can observe. The narrator is omniscient, and knows the hidden motives and emotions of the characters. The narrator alternates between providing insight into the actions and thoughts of Lucy, Aslan, and Edmund. Guddu also tried extra jobs, selling items at the train station platform, but that created new problems with the law. There are still those who can oppose their dark plan. Chief amongst them are Supreme Grand Master Azrael and the many Unforgiven Chapters who fight beneath his banner. Gathering their might, the Dark Angels and their successors answer the Arkifane’s challenge, hoping to quell whatever malevolence he and Abaddon seek to unleash. Nor are they alone in their quest, for Commander Dante races to lead his Blood Angels – and countless other Imperial forces – to the coming battle.Mum had decorated the house with Indian objects – there were some Hindu statues, brass ornaments and bells, and lots of little elephant figurines. I didn’t know then that these weren’t normal objects to have in an Australian house. She had also put some Indian printed fabric in my room, across the dresser, and a carved wooden puppet in a brightly coloured outfit. All these things were sort of familiar, even if I hadn’t seen anything exactly like them before. Another adoptive parent might have made the decision that I was young enough to start my life in Australia with a clean slate and could be brought up without much reference to where I’d come from. But my skin colour would always have given away my origins, and anyway, she and my father chose to adopt a child from India for a reason. Tartaglione, Nancy (26 January 2017). " 'Lion' Roars At Australia Box Office As Offshore Rollout Continues". Deadline Hollywood . Retrieved 8 October 2017. Why did it take so long? An interesting hypothesis is that Venetians decided to use the lion after the fall of the Latin Empire (1261) when Egypt became their main commercial partner and the striding lion was on the shield of Sultan Baybars. It was therefore a symbol of new alliances after the war with the Byzantine Empire. Let’s take a closer look at this symbol of Venice to discover some of the lesser-known aspects of the history of the Serenissima.
