About this deal

I am actually using one of the older Topping DACs now (D70s with the AKM chipset) which only decodes MQA over USB but I like it. The Topping driver for Win10 is for ASIO and does show up and play through both the system and Roon, but when I play MQA files the decoding (the Topping supports all types of MQA decoding) doesn’t seem to be happening. I was using DSP to provide a volume control via the Roon program, but I disabled that and set the Topping as decoder and renderer - and now it’s working as intended.

I also get OFS, but in the past is it was really showing me MQA, so there is something changed, phone app maybe ?And yes, am aware the specs of the NAS is not up to Roon Requirement but there’s only minimum amount of traffic and CPU usage in the NAS and so far, everything’s working fine when running Roon, apart from the E50 MQA issue. I think the Topping E50 + L50 Combo is going to be the perfect companion for a Raspberry Pi 4 with Display running RoPieeeXL (Roon Bridge) to set it up as Desk Roon end point. The E50 uses the latest high performance Dac chip ES9068AS and with its USB input using XMOS 2nd 16 core processor XU216 which supports 32bit 768Khz PCM, DSD512 and MQA we are sure to impress. TOPPING E50 ES9068AS MQA DAC, USB/Optical/Coaxial to TRS/RCA

since Tidal connect is not a free feature on Volumio i'm not sure if it's worth it to invest in a raspberry pi vs a Bluesound streamer. The Chromecast Audio has been fantastic for years, surprisingly not much of a following and shame it's discontinued. The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. When I play with Tidal over USB output, the sound drops constantly, and the display on D90 MQA switches between PCM and MQA.

I only listen to music through speakers, so I can't tell the slight difference in sound like a headphone user. However, the instructions warn that the two negative speaker terminals should not be connected together; otherwise, damage might occur. My Node2i behaves exactly like this as well with my D90SE (and apologies for rectifying this old post). Super annoying needing two or three pieces of expensive gear these days, super keen on the RPi4 route. I could hear a difference, but it was VERY slight, and I honestly could not say I preferred the more expensive kit.
