About this deal

Experience the very best in comfort and performance with New Balance Women’s Fresh Foam 1080 running shoes. Engineered with the modern athlete in mind, these shoes combine style, support and technology to provide an unparalleled running experience. The Fresh Foam 1080 is a part of the New Balance Fresh Foam family, which is renowned for exceptional comfort and performance. Drawing inspiration from the successful Fresh Foam 1080 series, our designers have taken innovation to the next level with the Fresh Foam V12 & V13. New Balance Fresh Foam V12 & V13 When looking at the negatives, they are fairly minimal. The upper is a bit too narrow in the toebox, but that issue will not be a problem for most runners. If this shoe was evaluated solely based on comfort it would be 5 stars, but it's a running shoe and it misses the mark by quite a bit. Superb comfort One thing I found while cutting this shoe apart that was a little odd, was a small strip of padding in the middle of the tongue under the name/logo. Not sure why they would put that there or what it does, but must add a tiny bit of unneeded weight. Lacing system makes no sense

When I put them side-by-side with shoes like the Saucony Triumph and Endorphin Shift, the 1080 is slightly lower – mostly due to the fit of the toebox. The forefoot rubber on the outsole itself is a bit harder durometer (85.2hc) than average (77.4) and should add some longevity to these shoes if you’re interested in running in them for hundreds of miles. Surprisingly lightweight If someone were to have slightly narrower feet than I, then the narrowness of the toebox would not be an issue. My feet are not very wide, but are larger and wider than normal. The upper itself fits true-to-size. My size 13 was the perfect 13, and I had no issues with the fit through the heel or midfoot. The lacing structure features oval lace holes, which fit the flat laces well, but the holes are vertical and on odd angles.

After running in the v11, I understand why. Is it a perfect shoe? No. But it is way more positive than negative. The heel counter is very odd, it dips in the middle and the upper portion is just foam and this stretchy neoprene-like material. It acts as a low heel cup to keep your heel from moving laterally, which it does, but you sure do get a ton of heel slip vertically.

Another oddity I’ve found while testing shoes is some shoes come in at a different weight for the left vs right shoes. This has an 8g difference, which is a large enough difference to mention. Conclusion On the midsole, the company uses laser engravings to create a honeycomb design that helps compress and soften your landing. This is noticeable on heel strikes, but not as much on forefoot strikes.

This has always been, and remains, a supremely cushioned shoe, and NB has refined the feature again and again over time, mostly by reducing weight while not losing any of the gorgeous bounce ad plushness. Great value Honestly, at the end of the day, I would compare them mostly to the New Balance Fresh Foam More v2 (perhaps my #4 shoe of 2020). It’s not as soft as the Mores but has much more energy return. There is a heel tab on this shoe, but it’s more like an elf tab, there’s no finger loop, and this tab is not all that easy to grasp. In today’s market, there has become a delineation between plated shoes and everyday offerings. Most companies would like you to choose a traditional trainer for logging most, if not all, of your miles. I’ve seen this on a few shoes this year, and I am not a fan, just sew in a simple finger loop, how hard is it? Fresh Foam 1080v11 is extremely breathableDavid: "I love the upper on this shoe. The forefoot has plenty of stretch knit material for toe splay, the midfoot is roomy and comfortable. The new heel also made it easy to slip on and off without causing any issues as I ran. I thought the last version was a bit too narrow in the midfoot, but this version corrected that issue." I’ve never encountered a double knot coming untied before this shoe. Really, it was quite remarkable, but not in a good way.

The lacing system is good, however the laces themselves are some of the worst I’ve encountered in a few years. To play devil's advocate here though, the heel slip issues were a much bigger concern just walking around in them where the slip is most pronounced. While running, it’s not as bad, but it's still slipping and annoying when it’s all you can think about every step. Heel tab doesn’t workWe put this in the freezer at 0 degrees F for 60 minutes and the shoe is 92.48% stiffer when cold. Flawless grip The outsole is pretty cool on the 1080v11. It’s almost a lugged design rather than a flat road trainer, and I dig this. It’s a shoe that is particularly suited to narrow footed runners. That’s not to say those of a standard width won’t get on to it but they’ll find it on the performance-y side rather than having enough wriggle room for any significant foot swelling. Happily, though, New Balance is one of the few brands that still offers multiple widths in many of its shoes, including this one, so you can find the fit that works for you. Stand out cushioning The New Balance 1080v10 sole unit has been kept for the v11s. And after feeling it, I understand why. The unit uses a full-length Fresh Foam X foam to provide superior cushion and bouncy energy return. Very lightweight, especially compared to the Ultraboost 21 which we just reviewed. At 261g, or 9.2 ounces it was a pleasant surprise. It could still be lighter though with plenty of shoes in this category coming in under 9 ounces.
