Both brushes come with thestandard ‘Daily Clean’ mode. They both then have a Sensitive mode. It is only the Pro 3 3000 that has the ‘Whitening’ mode. White: to show the toothbrush is in operation. This also flashes to indicate when to change the brushing position. With only a couple of slight differences between these two models, the Pro 3 3000 is the more premium and expensive of the two. But it doesn’t make it the one to go for. The oscillating-rotating and pulsating cleaning action that the small round brush heads deliver is proven ( in clinical trials) to be the best and most effective cleaning action. If we can brush our teeth better and generally achieve greater standards of oral health we should have less need for dental work, which can be costly and inconvenient.

The Genius X comes with different brush heads, depending on the variant. You get either 3 with the standard Genius X (1 x CrossAction, 1 x 3D White & 1 x FlossAction) or you get7 with the Luxe variant (2 x CrossAction, 1 x 3D White, 2 x Pro GumCare & 2 x FlossAction) Ultimately you should only commit to buying a brush at a price you are prepared to pay and deem valuable to you. So, both models come with a place to store brush heads, but the compartment with the 9000 is better than the stand offered with the Smart 6. In practice how it works is you connect your Genius X to your smartphone and begin brushing. As you do, the on-screen graphics, a set of teeth, gradually turn from blue to a white colour as you brush all areas of the mouth. Essentially when all the teeth are white you have brushed correctly, hitting all areas.
Put these two brushes side by side and the differences between them are much harder to tell, they look almost identical, however there are some subtle differences. Power isn’t normally promoted or documented as it is a small part of the toothbrushing experience. More power doesn’t necessarily equal a better clean. Your total brushing time and technique have a big part to play. This is a cycle that lasts for 20 seconds with 7300 oscillations and 30,000 pulsations and designed for as the name suggests, cleaning the tongue. Holding your phone whilst you hold the toothbrush in the other is not a make or break issue, but just something to be aware of.

The principle behind this professional timer is to ensure you clean the teeth in your mouth evenly. The iO does not have a recess in the base of the brush handle. The base Supplied in the box is a charging stand. It is white in colour and has a protuberance on the top, which fits into the recess on the base of the toothbrush handle.
The iO offers an oscillating-rotating cleaning action with micro-vibrations as opposed to pulsations on the Genius X. With the Genius X these buttons are themselves in a rounded oval panel and have a convex design to them. The iO buttons are concave.

On the Genius X brush handle, there is a battery status icon. You don’t have this with the iO, it has been moved to the display. The display will show the battery charge remaining with a graphic and text percentage (%). This percentage is set at 10% increments. It won’t ever read 44% for example. Once opened, there is even a place to sit your smartphone, so you can conveniently place it and use the app when travelling. The only downside is that there are no controls for adjusting modes or choosing an intensity setting on the brush itself. Instead, all the customization is done through the mobile app. That's not an issue once you've set it to your exact preferences, though; provided you don't like to switch modes on the fly, it's a superb brush. On the rear of the handle rather than raised plastic ridges, the 3000 has a more subtle dimpled surface.It is perfectly safe to leave the brush on the charging stand, connected to power and always on charge. As part of both the mechanical motor change and the changes in handle design, the brush heads for the iO have changed too. I am assuming that you want the best, so although it is quite a bit more expensive, the iO is the brush to go for. The other big plus with the iO Series 9 is charging. You get not only two weeks’ worth of charge in just under three hours, but also a slimline travel case that allows you to charge the brush while in-situ. While it’s due to be superseded by the new iO Series 10, this is not just the best Oral-B toothbrush, but the best electric toothbrush you can buy.
