About this deal

It has an EVA midsole that’s not as responsive or cushioned as you’ll find on Nike’s pricier options, but it will get the job done for runners heading out for a few 5Ks each week, and the smart design of the shoe works for casual wear as well. Alternatively, you could opt for a cushioned shoe, which will be the most comfortable option for your training if you’re a beginner runner or not too fussed about racing. This design gave good tread, smooth heel-to-toe transitions, and was flexible enough to remain comfortable. The Downshifter range is for the entry-level runner, wanting to benefit from Nike’s legacy when it comes to world-class running technology. The Vaporfly and Alphafly are updated less frequently, and Nike released the Vaporfly NEXT% 2 in 2021 so it’s unlikely to be updated again in the near future.

Size-wise, I had gone half a size up in the Downshifter vs the Revolution 5 and I felt the fit on the Downshifter 10 was the same as the pair of Revolution 5’s I have, thus making the Downshifter 10 on the smaller side in both length and especially the width. There are no reflective elements on the Downshifter 11 so be sure to be careful after dark in these if you are out running on busy roads.

There’s no better option for 5Ks and 10Ks, and there’s only one shoe we rate as better than the Vaporfly for long distance races, and that’s Nike’s other carbon racer, below. The medial and lateral swoosh design follows the path of the sole wrap and the heel features tape with the ‘Nike Running’ branding, matching that of the clothing range (a nice detail, if like me you like to match your workout outfit! In contrast, if you’re expecting to use the shoe mostly on the treadmill you don’t need to worry so much about grip. Key specs – Terrain: Trail; Arch support: Neutral; Best Used for: Training; Weight: 321g; Heel-to-toe offset: 9.If you’re not running too many miles each week, and don’t require the latest technology to shave seconds off your PB, the Downshifter 11 could be a great starting point. The Nike Downshifter 11 is a superb shoe for anyone starting out in running or training, or those looking for a budget running shoe. The Downshifter 10 is designed for runners on a budget, who want a shoe from a top trusted brand, that looks the part and ticks boxes when it comes to performance.

The Pegasus Trail 3 has a full-length React midsole, which offers a high level of comfort while still being stable enough for runs on uneven ground, and there’s extra protection around the front of the shoe to stop stray roots or stones from smashing your toes and ruining your run. The Vaporfly pairs Nike’s soft and springy ZoomX foam with a carbon plate to produce a remarkably fast and efficient ride that’s helped runners of all levels set PBs at races of all distances in recent years.I haven’t yet been for a run but a mild jog and they felt great and also used in gym sessions and felt good for squats etc. If you’re hitting the trails, you’ll need a dedicated shoe with extra grip and some protective elements on the upper to protect your feet from rogue roots and stones. On the first run, the cushioning under the midfoot and heel was impressive and felt soft without sapping energy. The decoupled outsole is a copy of the more premium Pegasus 37 design offering good tread, flexibility, and smooth transitions.
