About this deal

All three of those are excellent jumping-in points for the character, and all of them are in this book. It's not too often that the family is featured together as part of the main cast in one title, at least not for a long time until recently. Make no mistake, this collection IS exhaustive, collecting every scrap of Captain Britain possible, from first appearance through the brink of his joining Excalibur, although it oddly omits a Captain America appearance that was included in an earlier, slimmer version of this omnibus. This is an expensive and rather unsatisfying omnibus that neverthless would deserve at least one more star if it had focused on Alan Moore's contribution to the story.

I was thinking of making a thread for this, but maybe I can just put it here - I'll be up to the debut of Captain Britain pretty soon and so I was trying to add his publication history to my readthrough (which so far has just been Marvel US). Leading a new Excalibur roster including Gambit, Rogue, Jubilee, Rictor and Apocalypse, the team comes into conflict with Morgan le Fey and the anti-mutant Coven Akkaba, as well as Saturnyne, who had usurped the role of omniversal magisitrix and refuses to accept Betsy as Captain Britain.

Delano's biggest contribution would really end up being the bringing of Betsy Braddock into prominence—a character which would eventually become the immensely popular X-men character known as Psylocke under the guidance of Chris Claremont.

And when the events that destroyed that world begin to repeat themselves on his own, he faces a destiny that he cannot avert. Founded by Merlyn, his daughter Roma and Sir James Braddock, the organization is tasked with defending the multiverse. A true legacy hero, Brian Braddock is now Captain Avalon, head knight of King Arthur’s roundtable and he is one of mutantkind’s greatest human allies – his wife, daughter, and siblings are all mutants. So all in all a huge book of varying quality but the strength of Davis' stories makes this so worth having, and deserving of 4 stars. This is when Alan Davis began his work on the series (he draws almost the entire rest of the book), and Cap got a new costume (the one shown on the front cover of the omnibus).I know that Larry Lieber - Stan's brother - is considered a legend in the comics world, but honestly, his stories were something out of the fifties monster line. The final two entries have Chris Claremont (Captain Britain's creator) giving Captain Britain a role in exploring the X-juniors' 'teenage angst' in creditable stories whose main purpose seems to be transfer Braddock's sister to the New Mutants story line as Psylocke. The color was associated with his powers at the time but we can assume this was the early stages of what would become the pink butterfly. To add to the confusion there is another 2021 edition published by Panini which focuses on the Captain Britain material by Alan Moore, Alan Davis, Jamie Delano and Steve Parkhouse.
