About this deal

Internationally bestselling superstar author Angie Thomas makes her middle grade debut with the launch of a contemporary fantasy trilogy inspired by African American history and folklore. Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do.

And lastly, the portrayal of the Nic's father and his role in the destruction of the nuclear Black family didn't always sit right with me. I could see my 12 year old loving it, while at the same time my 42 year old self felt it was right at my level too. Overall, this is another take on the middle-grade magical fantasy genre that has exploded over the last twenty years. Her Unremarkable best friend JP lives next door – but he is remarkable in his enthusiasm for the fantasy books of TJ Retro, and for hanging out with Nic. I think the heavy topics for young readers was well balanced with the levity of the adventures the trio embark on.She also spent a great portion of the book creating parallels between this fantastical world and Black history as well as the Black experience. In a set of gleefully ingenious riffs on African and African American folklore, from "The People Could Fly" to Wakanda, Thomas pitches 12-year-old Nic into a whirl of stunning discoveries about her background as she struggles to understand her own magical gifts. Maar op andere momenten - de meeste momenten - klonk het heel modern en normaal Nederlands, zoals wij ook zouden spreken. Thomas skillfully incorporates folktales from the African Diaspora and infuses her story with the energy and emotional nuance of a pre-teen in this tale of intrigue, loyalty, identity, and courage--the first book in a projected trilogy. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot!

This is so much in conversation with Harry Potter/JKR and the way that stories/authors can betray their readers and it's just like *chef's kiss*. Bookwagon is overjoyed to welcome The Manifestor Prophecy, Angie Thomas’s debut middle grade title, aboard. When her godfather gives her a pen that she can send messages to whoever she thinks of she decides to contact her mother, trouble is Nic’s father hasn’t been completely honest with her about why it is just them and her actions change the course of her life forever.

It can be challenging to satiate the appetites of readers who devour beloved middle grade fantasy series. Some African lore, the Black history and its backgrounds and specially how it shapes the person that the characters had become. I was very excited to see that Thomas was writing middle grade, and a fantasy, which I love, but I couldn't get through it. At times the book strays off the path of the fantasy novel, and feels a little like a PBS or history channel special. She is Sunna, Norse goddess of the sun and Sunday’s guardian, and has been captured by Loki, the trickster god.
