About this deal

This is a list of books directly related to the case of Bentley and Craig, or giving background information.

She sometimes seems to miss the relevance of facts - she dwells longer on irrelevant detail than on the more important parts of her life. Maxwell Fyfe's autobiography, published in 1964, refers to the factors which he took into consideration: "the evidence of the trial, medical reports, family or other private circumstances . Let Him Have It is a 1991 British drama film directed by Peter Medak and starring Christopher Eccleston, Paul Reynolds, Tom Courtenay and Tom Bell.Firstly, the defence claimed there was ambiguity in the evidence as to how many shots were fired and by whom. Despite his family's efforts and public support, Bentley is executed in 1953 within a month of being convicted, before Parliament takes any official action. In fact he has never been busier and is a sought after 'ghost' these days as well as historian and novelist, with many different subjects' stories having been told through him. There was also the question of what Bentley had meant by the words “let him have it” – the jury decided that the boy, inspired by gangster movies he had seen, had meant for Craig to shoot.

The chapter dwells rather on the reputed sexual deviancy of Lord Goddard, but I believe that the coverage is not unfair. Contrary to Yallop's claims, none of the police officers present was armed at the moment when PC Miles was shot. On 11 December 1952, in a now celebrated case, two young men, Christopher Craig and Derek Bentley, were found guilty of murdering a policeman by shooting him.The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal.
