I’m don’t normally get excited about color pencils, and to be honest I’ve never tried a Prismacolor.

in a limited but workable range of colors, and don’t have the waxy feel of most colored pencils, which means they layer nicely with other media and blend seamlessly with ink, watercolor, and gouache.These pencils have been tested and trusted by artists worldwide, making them a reliable choice for all your artistic endeavors. The blue channel will show your black lines and not your pencil marks but the red and green channel will not. I absolutely love colerase for sketching in my sketchbook -looks so much nicer than the muddy look from graphite. The first thing I noticed when opening the Col-Erase packet was that none of the pencils had been sharpened, which I actually feel is a good thing as I personally feel this is a safer and more protective mode for the pencils to be in during transit, protecting the core from knocks and bangs. The box is just a thin cardboard like what a student-grade pencil like Crayola would come in (not knocking Crayola, I think they are wonderful for what they produce for children and students). Without a high lightfast ability, a beautiful work of art, after hanging on a wall for many years, will fade and lose its beautiful color. The Col-Erase pencils also have a durable lead that is resistant to breakage, making them perfect for detailed work. However, compared to the Col-Erase pencils, the erasability of the Scholar pencils is not as effective. The performance of the Col-Erase was a big deal for me, purely based on the terrible experience I had with the Prismacolor Premier pencils.So, with this being the main selling point, you would expect the pigment of the pencil to be easily erased, after all, the clue is also given in the name of the pencil; "Col-Erase",however we shall see further into the review as to whether or not they actually live up to their claim. If I don’t mind the lines showing, I would choose the Staedtler or the Caran d’Ache, since they are easier to see (and I generally prefer using a softer pencil).

Therefore, should the manual pencil sharpener not be your preferred way of getting a fine point, you can confidently use any of the other popular methods to sharpen your colored pencil including sanding, pocket knife, or even an electric colored pencil sharpener.

While their points may not retain their sharpness for as long as the Col-Erase pencils, they still provide good performance in terms of point retention. These pencils are highly recommended for artists, professionals, and anyone seeking reliable and long-lasting colored pencils.
