About this deal

The manner it gets stuck into Josefin Ohrn’s Horse Dance is a proper head nodding, foot tapping, big cheesy grin experience. This doesn't mean the bass is very substantial in the mix; rather, it just means it moves quickly but effectively.

Selv i denne følsomme balance lykkes IE 600 med at inkorporere en kraftfuld, hurtig og præcis basrespons. The housing is formed using metal-powder-based 3D printing, meaning all necessary chambers and channels are created with no milling required. This is in some ways a more sophisticated object than the machined aluminium housing that the IE 900 uses. Granted, these buds have more distortion (THD), so it’s not the best choice for super analytical listening.Orchestral and jazz tracks are still performed exquisitely, but the IE 600 isn’t an IEM that gives them the width and openness that do some examples justice. The cable is not for me, there is cable noise and I find myself constantly bothered with it touching my neck. The result of silicone tips on the sound is that you get an increased level of clarity, a slightly less heavy bass presentation and more spicy and energetic treble. connection that the IE 900 comes supplied with but the MMCX connectors mean that aftermarket options are available if you need it.

I’ve run the prerequisite tests over balanced with the IE 600 but I haven’t found that it shows the same leap that the IE 900 does used over the same connection (quite why that is the case is unclear to me but it seems repeatable enough) and the combination of Chord’s fiddly but brilliant black brick and the Sennheiser has made for a partnership that really does make a compelling argument to be seen as ‘high end. Before burying the lede too much here, Sennheiser did a truly remarkable job with the driver, and the IE600 are among the best IEMs I've used to date. One of the most advanced production lines of its type in the world, our manufacturing facility has a singular purpose — to exceed the expectations of audiophiles. With 18Ω and 118dB SPL, the IE600 isn't too demanding, and can easily be driven by any decent source. After using the IE600 alongside the likes of the Fiio FA7S, Audeze Euclid, and a variety of budget planar options, I can say that they're among the best-sounding IEMs I've used to date. Without being in any way drily analytical or tediously forensic about it, the Sennheiser locate and deliver every scrap of information in a recording. The paradigm-shifting acoustic performance is appropriately clad in the highest-performance amorphous zirconium. As the name suggests, it slots neatly into the gap between the IE 300 and the IE 900 (the IE 800S has now gone to the great desk drawer in the sky) and it follows a similar basic design (although within that are differences between the three that make sense both in terms of logical progression and what Sennheiser is trying to do in terms of range building). Whether it matters that you can use balanced or unbalanced connections with the IE 600 depends on a couple of factors, but the general answer is no it doesn’t make a perceivable difference which you pick.

This – according to Sennheiser – ensures a true-to-life voicing that is especially expressive for vocal performances. How you feel about the texture of the housings, whether you care for over-ear cabling, and if you prioritize a wired connection will all help determine if the Sennheiser IE 600 is right for you. With the caveat that applies to all IEMs that the seal in the ear canal needs to be a good one, this is an earphone that hits very hard indeed. As an example, making out low volume speech might prove difficult, but keystrokes come through with a good amount of unimpeded volume.Simon Lucas is a freelance technology journalist and consultant, with particular emphasis on the audio/video aspects of home entertainment. Shure is just as venerable a name as Sennheiser where products like this are concerned, and while the AONIC 5 don’t have quite the same bee in their bonnet regarding detail retrieval as the IE600, they’re every bit as listenable, every bit as convincing and every bit as accomplished.

The Sennheiser has been tested using a Chord Electronics Mojo2 with and without a Poly running as a Roon Endpoint attached and a Lenovo T15P ThinkPad (again using Roon) and 2021 iPad Pro (running Qobuz) acting as a source. The 7mm dynamic driver is a staple for Sennheiser’s in-ear earphones, no matter if they’re wired or Bluetooth, and it’s been a big part of their success. The MKII version has a redesigned soundstage that's absolutely engrossing, and the hybrid driver design plays a big part in that. Produced using a 3D printing process, the housings are crafted from ZR01 amorphous zirconium, a super-hard metal that has a glass-like atomic structure and is three times as strong and resistant to bending as high-quality steel. If you want more bass than the IE 600, the Campfire Audio Honeydew is a fun set of isolating earbuds. While the IE600 is available for just under half of what you'll need to pay for the IE900, I think these are the best IEMs in Sennheiser's portfolio at the moment.
