About this deal

As I write this review, it occurs to me that this is one of those books that I like the ideas way more than the execution. The magic system reminds me of The Magicians a bit and I love the idea of a nigh-immortal wizard training twelve orphans. However, I didn't really care about any of the characters other than Steve and the lions. I thought the story meandered all over the place and could have been more focused. It's also one of the few books where I wanted a lot more worldbuilding. because the book takes some unexpected turns. so many, in fact, that i'm not really sure how to review it without treading into spoiler territory. P.S. Много е готино да имаш лъвица за другар в бедите и да можете да си говорите, но на собствения ѝ език. Завидях на Стийв! At first, I thought it was a small story. Carolyn says to Steve, “come to this place with me and do this thing. I’ll pay you to do it.” But Hawkins fooled me. It was so much more. Allegorical. Universal in scope. But still relatable and funny at times. When I wasn’t thinking, “now what’s happening?” Review on English, followed by the Bulgarian one. Ревюто на английски е първо, следва това на български.

So yes, a very imaginative, very well written, intriguing, exciting, brutal, funny book that you should definitely give a go. I'm good. Still clearing my head. Thanks, though." She stretched her face into something like a smile. The writing was pretty good and there was a surprising amount of humor. I thought the scheme the mastermind pulled off was very well done.No real thing can be so perfect as memory, and she will need a perfect thing if she is to survive. She will warm herself on the memory of you when there is nothing else, and be sustained.”

A first-rate novel… a sprawling, epic contemporary fantasy about cruelty and the end of the world, compulsively readable, with the deep, resonant magic of a world where reality is up for grabs. Unputdownable.”— Cory Doctorow, New York Times bestselling author of Little Brother and Makers And Carolyn, who is studious and organized by nature, has a plan. It’s actually a pretty damned good plan. Brianna the Bibliophile wrote: "Congratulations on all the publicity on GR recently! Every time I log on, your book is featured on the news feed as one of the best reads a GR author has to offer! And I have to agree completely, L..."A haunting Southern Gothic from an award-winning master of suspense, A House With Good Bones explores the dark, twisted roots lurking just beneath the veneer of a perfect home and family. All the oddness of this book, its sheer creativity, blows me away. All its characters become real and archetypes and real all over again, wrenched from all those endlessly tired grounds to become something new and fantastic again. From USA Today bestselling author Cassandra Khaw comes The Salt Grows Heavy, a razor-sharp and bewitching fairytale of discovering the darkness in the world, and the darkness within oneself.

Damn, I love this book. It has not lost any of its flavor. I could keep reading this every single year and still love it. It's definitely one of my all-time favorites. :) Similarly, several times excessive force is used rather arbitrarily. This is understandable for Father and the Pelapi who obviously work on a slightly different scale, however even normal characters seemed to regard violence or threats as a first resort, something which again made neither Steve nor Erwin, our supposed perspective characters particularly easy to sympathise with. Unfortunately for Carolyn, all her studying and all her planning has not accounted for one tiny little detail: she was once a normal little girl. Little girls, as we all know, are full of hopes and dreams and emotions. In addition – and I have two young daughters so I can tell you this – little girls are full of sass, have a temper, and will hold a grudge. So, if you like strange characters with a God-complex and you enjoy reading something that is truly nothing like you’ve ever read before, this is probably a good option for you. I very much enjoyed it. Centuries before, robots of Panga gained self-awareness, laid down their tools, wandered, en masse into the wilderness, never to be seen again. They faded into myth and urban legend.Michael tried and tried, but the Deep One wouldn’t go for it. My brother tried to explain the situation, but Father wouldn’t listen." Of course, this isn’t actually a mystery book, either. The book is classified under “contemporary fantasy”, and I guess that will have to do. I don’t want to go into the plot too much because half the fun of this book is the slow, steady reveal of how weird and crazy things are. Suffice to say, I have not read anything like it before, and just when I thought I figured out what’s going on, I was sooner proven wrong.

I can honestly say this was one of the most bizarre books I've ever read! I read a lot of fantasy and science fiction, but this book was so unique and eccentric, it would blow the mind of even the most seasoned readers:

Orbiting around them are a variety of other folks from Erwin the famous military veteran to David the vicious fighter in a tutu and Jennifer the pothead with a talent for healing people. Hawkins gives these supporting characters enough development to flesh out how the story evolves. At the same time, the true nature of the plot is never completely obvious.
