The problem is a lot of time the jump before the final panel, for the yuck, involves some form of motion or change, and the art just isn't up to conveying that, meaning quite a few of these are just unfathomable. Okay I don't know if Tim Burton really inspired this series of short stories but looking at the various humanoid characters it was the first thing that came to mind before we even get to see the one and only Creepy Cat. This series follows the adventures of Flora and her kitty as she works around his ludicrous corporeal form and the humans in her orbit try to figure out what is up with the house.The end of this volume hints at something intriguing, but it is hard to tell if it will lead to a satisfying storyline. This is a really goofy slapstick comedy series where each chapter is a single page joke with a ridiculous concept. In the end, Creepy Cat will probably find fans with a tween audience who will giggle at Creepy Cat’s antics.

That being said, there are some relatively creepy cat behaviors that utterly unnerve the uninitiated and we’re here for it. Gothic-inflected full-color illustrations rendered mainly in a palette of red, white, and black and influenced by Kunio Katou’s The Diary of Tortov Roddle, per a back matter note, follow earnest, deftly sketched characters and a fast-paced, lightly connected plot in this sprightly slice-of-life series opener.
