About this deal

Without a 2020 OLED to compare it to, it’s hard to make an exact judgement. However, the LG G1 proffers a very good sense of fine detail with faces (beards, stubble, crows feet and so on), with no particular softness or noise evident in problematic areas such as mouths or eyes – faces are full of character. The OLED G1 undoubtedly delivers overall better picture quality than any of LG's 2020 OLED TVs. Whether it delivers as much of an improvement as some quarters might have been hoping for, though, is another question. Using a huge database of over one million visual date points, AI Picture Pro uses deep-learning algorithms to recognise content, remove noise and optimise the picture. AI Sound Pro leans from more than 17 million audio data points, identifying voices, effects and frequencies. From here, it optimises the sound by genre, giving a more natural sound quality.

LG OLED65G26LA | 65 inch OLED Evo 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart TV

At the time of writing there's a question mark over whether the OLED G1 is sufficiently superior to the upcoming C1 mid-range OLEDs - which don't get the Evo panel - to justify its extra cost. Based on the type of enhancements it brings over last gen's CX models, though, it most likely is a worthy step up from the C1 - if you're looking to wall-mount anyway. The LG G1 has decent HDR peak brightness. This is where the evo panel provides an improvement from the LG GX OLED. Although it's one of the brightest OLEDs available, the replacement model, the LG G2 OLED, is even brighter. It gets bright enough to make small highlights stand out, but once again, it has an aggressive ABL, so large areas are dimmer. The EOTF follows the target curve pretty well until there's a sharp roll off at its peak brightness, but some dark scenes are slightly too dark. A record number of people watched England battle valiantly against Italy in the Euro 2020 final and now the Olympics means that many of us are gathering round our telly to see team GB win medal after medal (hopefully). This makes LG's own AI Sound Pro setting a much better option for most content. This does amp up to take on loud moments, as well as somehow make the sound fill the room more.

The 4K TVs with the best viewing angle - Which? News

Filmmaker mode preserves the creative intent of films and TV shows by disabling motion processing and other enhancements. It should be noted that Filmmaker mode reflects the environment a film was graded in, so it’s best viewed in darker rooms. FMM works across SDR, HDR10 and HLG formats. While not every aspect of the LG G1’s picture performance excels, there are aspects of it that take OLED displays to impressive places. It’s the best image quality I’ve reviewed on any LG OLED, and right up there with some of the best-looking images I’ve seen on any TV. Sound quality There are plenty of more expensive TVs with worse viewing angle than this one, but how are the other aspects of picture quality? Find out in our Samsung UE43AU9000KXXU review. How we test the viewing angle NanoCell TVs have an extra colour-boosting layer. While we don't always think it provides a clear improvement to vibrancy or colour accuracy over standard LCD TVs, they could be partly responsible for the impressive viewing angle. These two improvements instantly help the G1 deliver a more satisfying and ‘complete’ HDR performance than any LG OLED before. They’re supported, too, by a further slight but again important improvement in colours. With video sources this sees relatively pure blue and, especially, red and green tones enjoying both more subtle tonal delineations and a more natural feel. Especially when they’re presented in a bright situation. You can argue that the AI Picture Pro mode is more concerned with optimising sources to the screen’s capabilities than marshalling the TV’s settings to a source’s native qualities. The Cinema and Filmmaker Modes are on hand, though, to provide accuracy if that’s what you want, so the improvements to the AI Picture Pro mode are certainly not a sign of LG abandoning the sort of AV enthusiasts that have been a core part of its OLED audience for so long.

LG G1 OLED Evo review (OLED65G16LA, OLED55G16LA, OLED77G16LA)

But there will be some who are drawn to the minimalist, picture frame-like appearance of the G1 and wouldn’t dream of adding a soundbar to this set-up. Those people will simply have to accept that the audio performance will not hit anything like the same cinematic heights as the picture. Verdict The LG G1 has okay peak brightness. Despite having the new evo panel, it's actually about the same brightness as the LG C1 OLED. It may not be bright enough for a room with a ton of lights, but it should be fine for moderately-lit environments. Small highlights are the brightest, but larger areas get more dim due to the aggressive Automatic Brightness Limiter (ABL). Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 1st November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.)After years of merely refining its much-loved webOS platform, LG has finally introduced some really significant changes on the OLED G1.
