About this deal

I have standard top opening bedroom upvc windows - had to fashion my own fitting to get it to vent out of the window - why do my manufacturers never provide suitable fixings for this. Its compact and lightweight size also makes it a great option for small homes – Meaco recommends it for use in rooms between 12-22m² – whereby it can suck 7000 British Thermal Units of heat from the air per hour and discharge it outside. I don't doubt a smaller unit would be easier to move around and, admittedly, it is on castors, but lugging it up a set of stairs is a two-person job. The power cable isn’t super long, which can be an issue if your window isn’t located a metre away from the plug point, but it’s easy to extend the hose to a suitable length to compensate. The standard window kit is suitable for sash windows, whereas the flexible window kit is suitable for all types of windows.

The MeacoCool MC Series 14000 could be your favourite purchase of the year, depending on just how hot and sweltering the weather gets. Whilst it's not the most powerful air con unit the brand offers – there are 8000BTU, 9000BTU, 10000BTU, 12000BTU, and 14000BTU options if you want an air conditioner that has more power or need a unit that can cool a larger room – its smaller size and lighter build is a real bonus for anyone who might struggle to heft a larger unit into position. Cool is the main air-con setting and, as is the case the majority of portable AC, the lowest temperature that can be set is 16˚C.This feels like it’s some level of prerequisite when it comes to air conditioners as unlike fans that arrive ready to plug in and go, air conditioners generally need to have some access to the outside to expel the hot air and thus, come alongside a window kit to create a secure way to vent it outside. You can use the same drainage hose that you’d use on Dry Mode to empty this, which may be necessary on very humid days. It’s a shame the louvre doesn’t go lower so you can sit in front of the air flow to keep extra cool. To get the very best use out of the MeacoCool air conditioning range, we recommend pre-cooling rooms before they need to be used so that they are nice and cool for when they do need to be used. All Meaco products come with a two year parts and labour warranty on mainland UK, and the option of extending warranty to five years.

We don’t have a sliding door or window for me to try the fixed window plates on, however, this method also looks very straightforward. The Meaco range has an Energy Rating of A, meaning you can run them without worrying about the effect on your bills, and they have also reduced the running noise, giving you a quieter air conditioning unit to see you through the warmer months. The Dry setting uses the room’s ambient temperature to run the compressor and it behaves a bit like a dehumidifier, drawing moisture from the room. One of our windows that I tried it on was particularly large, at over 145cm tall, however, there was still more than enough Velcro and the window kit was big enough to do an even bigger window as there was excess left over at either end. When things really start cooking, no simple cooling fan will ever be sufficient enough to keep you cool unless you soak yourself first and sit directly in front of the spinning blades. It’s a bit heavy so not ideal for going up and down stairs but has wheels to be able to move around.
