About this deal

Now for the level of steaminess.. I remember the first book being steamy, but this took the levels of hot to the next level, in that I felt like I was reading porn! It felt a bit too much for me, I prefer the sexual tension leading up to a couple getting together, and this had A LOT of sex. No one else seemed to mind this though, so maybe it's just me?! Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for so many explicit sex scenes?! As for Dani, well, shes fantastic! Shes motivated and determined, shes blunt and shes confident, but she also protects her heart at all costs. She values her success in her academic field, and it was so wonderful getting to read about someone who so obviously loved what they did, and was not ashamed to put their focus on their work rather than other places.

Don't get me wrong, though; while Zaf was the shining light for me, I adored Danika, too. She isn't my favorite of Talia's heroines (that one's still a toss-up between Ruth Kabbah and Dani's older sister Chloe), but she was certainly fun, and I loved the fact that she was a practicing witch! I related so much to every scene that touched upon her faith and practice, and having never seen a modern witch in a romance book before, I ate it right up. Of course, Dani could be a bit cruel to my sweet Zaf at times, but without spoiling anything, trust me when I say our lovely lady impressed me to no end with how far she progressed.

I loved both of the families, Dani and her sisters, Chloe and Eve, plus Gigi, and Zaf with his mum, Kiran and Fluffy! They were all so supportive of each other! I just want to hang out with all of them! What kind of romance is this? Contemporary fresh, with sassy and woke dialogue and characters, narrated with British diction that mostly works (I love how classy it sounds when they say “for foox sake” but my American ears cringe at the pronunciation of words like aluminum.) This book gives good trash talking banter and two explicit sex scenes (plus weirdly often use of the word “precum” throughout).

Talia Hibbert has done it again with the second book in her series about the Brown sisters. I loved this book so flippin’ much! me: brotha Zain, where you at?? this is the best time to get inside his head and remind him what he’s doing is haram 😂🤣 There’s also this wonderful conversation about the difference between changing yourself for someone else and someone encouraging you to grow and become a better version of yourself. This is such an important distinction and I was so glad to see it discussed in a romance book, where many times the characters feel the need to change themselves to be with their love interest, which should not be the case!

Talia Hibbert really has me out here believing that these fictional men she creates exist. So I’m going to roll with this delusion. We’ve met Dani ( Her name is Slavic and it means “Morning star”! Even though our character is insomniac and night owl and she knows how to be shiny and energetic in the mornings thanks to Zaf’s uneaten protein bars!) at the first book and since I adored her sarcastic, witty, entertaining banters with her sisters and her quirky, likable antics, I was so excited to read her own book. In this book, we start learning more about her career driven moods, her ambitiousness to gain professional success. I love brown men in interracial. I think I'm disappointed that many of the brown men I've been reading as of recent weeks are a little boring. Zafir was a non-practicing Muslim and a cinnamon roll but much of what was adorable about him made him feel like financially he couldn't compete with Dani. I had to wonder whether this is the reason she never reassured him because he wasn't impressive in comparison to her so she reminded me of Molly from Insecure. She didn't really want to put in work she just wanted when her time was free to have a loyal partner.

Dani is a confident woman who knows what she wants out of life and intends to get it. I loved that Dani knew her own mind and wasn’t willing to settle for anything less than what she wanted. Dani does have a poor outlook on love as it’s never worked out for her in the past. After learning Dani’s history, her reaction to love made sense and I could see why she avoids it. Dani is a bit of a workaholic and her dedication to her work definitely led to her personal life suffering. Her family is fantastic and I love the relationship she has with her sisters. Dani, Chloe, and Eve are all so wonderfully supportive of each other and I love it.The prose is in third person but we still get to hear the inner monologues of each character. The writing is done extremely well and that just made me love the narrative even more. Ibcould feel every emotion in one chapter, I genuinely believe ots a skill to get the reading feeling like this. Dani is a literal Queen, a bisexual badass who knows what she wants and goes after that shit. Training for her PHD, Dani is focussed on her academic potential. She knows what she wants (in and outside of the bedroom) and she goes for it and I loved this almost non-apologetic manner that she had! Dani embraced her sexuality and owned herself and it was so empowering to read about. Can a bearded, romance-reading, retired rugby pro convince a Type A grad student to make room for love? Except for that thing when you take a big bite of what you think is an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie (one of the best kinds) and instead you are dealt the killing blow of an unexpected raisin. Dani Brown is an extremely intelligent, goal focused and hard working what Dani is no good at is relationships. During a fire drill Dani gets trapped in a lift and is rescued by Zafir (Zaf) her work colleague and good friend. She sees his rescue as a sign from the universe that they should be friends with benefits and then a video of Zaf rescuing Dani becomes viral they strike up a deal.
