About this deal

The small statue that comes with the Revopoint MINI is most useful for your first scan. Its features and small size makes it an ideal object to use to get a feel for how the device works and what settings you need to use. The Revopoint Mini is a structured light 3D scanner that projects a pattern of light on an object and measures the distortion in the pattern to determine the geometry of the model. 3D scanning is just as much art as it is science, and some objects are much harder to scan than others. Shiny and reflective surfaces are hard to capture, and dark colors and voids can be mixed up in the software. To help ensure that users will have a successful first scan, Revopoint includes a ceramic bust that has a dull white finish. This asymmetrical model is ideal for scanning, and the small size of the bust means it fits easily on the turntable. Demo model with a visible blue light projected on a surface The minimum volume, however, is a mere 10x10x10 mm (3/8″ x 3/8″ x 3/8″). This is one of the smallest volumes that we’ve seen from a desktop 3D scanner and is a big advantage if you want to scan small objects.

Looking at the two statues side-by-side, it seems like their material has a tendency to yellow over time. It won’t affect scanning results but is interesting to see. This is often the tradeoff for the high level of detail that comes with blue light scanning. So if you need to scan larger objects, you’re better off with a different type of 3D scanner, like the Revopoint POP 2 or the Einscan SP. Scanning Precision For the MINI, the point distance is 0.05 mm. This provides a lot more detail compared to the 0.15 mm of the POP 2. Looking for a career in additive manufacturing? The Revopoint POP 2 comes with the Revo Scan scanning program and Revo Studio modeling program. Output formats are PLY, OBJ, and STL. That jump in prices comes with some major benefits over the POP duo. A precision of 0.05 mm combined with a 0.02 mm point cloud distance allows the MINI to scan much smaller objects with higher accuracy. The minimum scan distance shrinks accordingly to 10 x 10 x 10 mm, as does the single capture range to 64 x 118 mm. This is especially true for small, handheld 3D scanners like the Revopoint MINI. They have a smaller sweet spot for the optimal scan and are more sensitive to movement. The Revopoint MINI is the superior option for anyone looking for a small, accurate, and relatively affordable 3D scanner. If that’s what you’re after, we recommend giving it a try. The Revopoint POP 2 features two IR sensors, a Class 1 laser projector, and a high-resolution RGB sensor to deliver dual camera infrared structured light scanning. The IR camera and RGB sensors allows for color 3D scanning also on the Revopoint 3D scanner range. (Photo is of the Revopoint POP 2) The MINI is designed to work as a handheld and turntable scanner for multiple 3D scanning applications. The MINI supports two ways of the alignment: the maker and the feature. It is an ideal device that can scan objects with various shapes for all kinds of 3D modeling needs. With the same small objects (some of which you’ll see below), the Revopoint MINI was able to create perfectly usable point clouds. Handheld and Turntable 3D ScanningThe good points are that they provide all functions you need, they are stable and rarely crash, and none of them are cloud-based. So you are able to create 3D scans whenever you want. Moreover, MIRACO contains a 5,000 mAh battery capacity and 50W fast charging, allowing for continuous scanning for up to 2 hours. It carries an IP45 rating, making it robust enough to function effectively in different environments. Compared to traditional PC-based workflows, the device also offers efficient post-processing and modeling editing. The Revopoint POP offers handheld scanning, stationary scanning (tripod included), and human scanning modes, all of which work both indoors or outdoors, with the best results obtained by avoiding direct sunlight, ideally one hour before sunset. The Revopoint MINI ships with a trio of software applications. First, Revo scan, the application used for the scanning. Then, Revo studio, a professional-grade model editing program, perfect for more advanced applications. Lastly, Revo Calibration is designed to make calibrating the scanner simple and straightforward. As for file formats, the Revopoint exports to PLY, OBJ, and STL. Fixing scanned STL files in Revo Studio. Revopoint is also releasing a beta update of its Revo Scan software (ex HandyScan software) for both Windows and Mac users. The main novelty of this version is the possibility for users to set the minimum point distance to 0.02mm for a higher level of detail on the resulting mesh.

The easiest way to scan objects like these is with the turntable. It keeps the object in place while you capture it from different angles. Are you looking for a job in the additive manufacturing industry? Visit 3D Printing Jobs for a selection of roles in the industry. Handheld and stationary modes are available on all three, so there is no difference other than the MINI’s improved turntable. The utility of extra, more granular scanning modes, such as face and hair, depends on your needs. If you’ll make use of these, then the Revopoint POP 2 outclasses its sibling for versatility. Software and File Compatibility Revopoint POP Reorient the model on the turntable and continue the scan from a different angle. Depending on the size and complexity of your object, you might have to do this several times to capture all sides.

The latter also produces cleaner point clouds and meshes without having to fiddle around with various settings that can be difficult to understand for beginners. The tripod has extendable legs, so you can either use it as a stand on the table, or use it as a handle for handheld scanning. This is a great feature, as it removes the need for two separate accessories. The build quality of the Revopoint MINI is in line with the rest of Revopoint’s products—excellent. Even though these 3D scanners are located on the more affordable side of the spectrum, there is nothing about them that feels cheap. The Revopoint POP 2 features precision up to 0.05 mm alongside a 0.15 mm point cloud distance. The Revopoint MINI’s precision hit 0.02 mm, while the point cloud distance is 0.05 mm. When testing the Revopoint POP 2, I confirmed its accuracy to 0.07mm. Under the hood, MIRACO comes equipped with its 2.8 GHz 8-core processor and 16GB or 32GB of high-speed RAM, ensuring maximum efficiency in model scanning and processing. The device also features an immersive 2K 6” AMOLED display, offering an optimal viewing experience even in challenging lighting conditions, with the added flexibility of a 180° flip feature for easy selfie scans. MIRACO features an advanced RGB Camera, which utilizes a 48-megapixel sensor and Flash LEDs to produce realistic 3D models with superior color and texture effects. What makes MIRACO stand out is its all-in-one design, eliminating the need for external devices like phones or PCs, streamlining the scanning and processing of models. Using the kits to adjust your scanner at a proper height and angle enables you to scan more conveniently. It features free expansion and height adjustment for expanded device compatibility and to accommodate multiple applications. Neither 3D scanner is focused on scanning small, detailed objects like the MINI is, but they both offer a better scanning experience overall. In our experience, Shining3D’s software provides better results with less effort. The included accessories are also smaller than those of Revopoint’s other 3D scanners. The included statue is tiny, and the calibration board is reduced in size as well. You can combine this with a smartphone for a fully portable 3D scanning solution. For this, you will need a reasonably modern (i.e. fast) smartphone that has the free Revo Scan app installed ( Android / iOS). For now, this scanner seriously deserves a 5/5. Even with my clumsy, inexperienced use of the MINI I was able to obtain decent results. I can't wait to see what it will be like when I can use the scanner to its full potential. Place the statuette on the turntable, and make sure it is positioned as much in the center as possible. This makes it easier for the software to find common points between scans and results in a better final model. We do hope that Revopoint will keep on iterating and making improvements. The current software experience is good enough for the price, but there is still some way to go to catch up to the software of the nearest competitors (the Einscan SE and Einscan SP). Build Quality
