Twenty years after vanquishing the wicked queen Bavmorda, the sorcerer Willow Ufgood leads a group of misfits on a dangerous rescue mission into the unknown. The story flicks between Allan Reader, owner of Reader Bats one of the last traditional batmakers in Australia, and up and coming young cricketer Todd Harrow who catches Allan’s eye early in his career.

Danny Woodburn as the voice of Wiggleheim, a late Nelwyn sorcerer whose voice was heard in his tomb giving riddles to access his treasure. Similarly, the story of Harrow's younger sister was lost and I so wanted more of these tales, which almost became backstories, to a book that read like a cricket commentary. The author was a pretty renowned Scandinavian author of mystery novels by the time she wrote this book.As Harrow charts a meteoric rise to the highest echelons of the sport, Allan's bat takes centre stage as well, awakening something in him.
