About this deal

BUT when the primary fuse is removed, the secondary circuit is also removed despite still having a fuse in place. This is due to both circuits feeding through the primary fuse. But overall, hardwiring is a good option and pretty straightforward and doesn't require any tampering with wiring looms thanks to fuse taps. Fuse taps let you 'plug' the dash cam into an existing fuse without replacing it. Fuse taps are clever pieces of metal and plastic that can turn 1 fuse position on your fuse box into 2 separate fuse positions. They are a good generic way to separately power an additional circuit. a>

Step 3: Identify the type of fuse,so you can get the right size fuse tap and accessory fuse. The owner's manual should identify the type of fuse used in your vehicle Step 10: Turn off the car, and then plugthe factory fuse in the proper slot ofthe fuse tap,if it was removed in Step 4. (Adding a fuse to a circuit that didn't originally have one could damage factory wiring.)

So with this in mind, the diagram on the left shows how the fuse tap is configured (ignore the 4 dots). Running 2 fuses in line is bad news. It’ll put a strain on the original fuse which may cause it to keep blowing, (this would also cut power to the new circuit) however, it will also cause the 2nd fuse to blow slower. If we fit the fuse tap the other way around then all that happens is that the 1A fuse burns out to protect the 1A wiring and the car lives for another day. Experienced dash cam installers will know there are plenty of other options, but they’re car model-specific and may involve splicing into existing looms. If in doubt get a competent and qualified auto electrician for that type of installation. Dash cam installation: no more suction cups

These things really can be more complicated than you’d expect and blindly throwing in fuses and plugging it into your fusebox could end in some serious consequences. Problem 1IF the fuse tap is fitted with the correct orientation in the fuse panel (As you look at the fuse tap the left blade is the feed when the secondary output lead is on the right) then removing the primary fuse still allows the secondary circuit to operate. Using this knowledge would allow you to determine if the fuse tap is fitted the correct way round. If you have a meter you could also use that to determine the feed and load in the fuse panel. product/helpAdviseTab.hbs -->
