About this deal

It might claim ‘only’ 150 per cent ‘more vision’ compared with arch-rival Osram’s 220 (below), but Philips absolutely dominated this test, taking the win in every one of our assessments – and by a substantial margin. Just as with the performance version (below left), we suspect build problems with this pair, because their performance proved to be no match for not just the X-tremeVision, but also stablemate Ring’s standard bulb.

Given the huge success of these two industry favourites, it's no surprise that their new, refined successors offer an exceptional light. The results were converted to percentages and added together to get our result, with the winner rated at 100 per cent and the others scored relative to that performance. Environmental concerns over the mercury they contained have seen the focus switch to D3S since then, making it the biggest seller in the aftermarket, with growing sales as cars fitted with them reach the end of the five-year life of the lamps. For 100 years, Philips has been at the forefront of the automotive lighting industry, introducing technological innovations that have become standard on modern automobiles. Philips AirFlux and AirCool technologies are smart cooling systems that divert heat away from the light's critical components.

Light is a fundamental part of the driving experience and light is the first and only part of the safety circle that actually helps prevent accidents. Beyond the practical improvement of extra brightness on the road comes an added self-assurance and sense of security, which helps to lessen stress levels behind the wheel. The shrinking number of producers making the latest high-performance halogen bulbs has allowed us to also include HID gas discharge lamps in our annual test.

This helps you recognise obstacles and any potential dangers earlier than with most other halogen headlight lamps. Unlike other 150% upgrade bulbs, these H7 X-tremeVision Pro150 headlight bulbs last on average for up to 450 hours. Had a tough time travelling 60 kms on a highway, 2 weeks ago (had to slow down due to lack of brightness). Modern bulbs provide increased light output and superior performance, offering a safer driving experience. While I might have preferred a whiter light from an aftermarket headlight bulb, given its affordability, it’s hard to grumble. Philips quartz-glass lamps (filament 2 650°C and glass 800°C) are able to withstand severe thermal shock. With its optimised high-precision filament geometry, up to 13 bar high-pressure gas filling, high-precision coating and high-quality UV-Quartz glass, Philips X-tremeVision G-force headlights represent a milestone in automotive lighting. This makes two wins on the trot for the RacingVision GT200, following its single-filament H7 victory in our last test.

The uniform beam pattern is precision-designed to meet road-safety regulations for halogen headlights. It simply makes more sense to change headlamp bulbs in pairs, rather than only replacing the failed one. Cooler bulbs tend to have longer lifespans, hence super bright headlight bulbs often require heat sinks and turbo fans to handle the excess heat they generate.X-tremeVision provides you with a better reactivity thanks to an earlier recognition of obstacles and traffic signs. packs arrived promptly have used 60% versions in the past, the 130% seem a whiter light have fitted to both cars and there is a vast improvement, just need to tweak the alignment of the beam on the road, once this is done, I am sure it will prove to be a good purchase. Superior to origional halogen bulb, much better reach of light and good beam pattern, would of liked them to of provided better light in heavy rain or poor conditions but never the less still a good set of lights. Philips Original Equipment Quality products are designed and developed following strict quality control processes (including applicable ISO norms), leading to consistently high production standards.

Thankfully, Philips RacingVision GT200 is also fully tested and ECE-certified for road legal use on all public roads and highways.

Between Philips and Osram, which is better in terms of light throw, clarity during rains and reliability?
