About this deal

The rugged handles are sewn on with serger stitches to ensure they’re strong enough to support a full grow bag of soil. Alternatively, you could combine two bags together by cutting the top off one and the bottom off another to combine them into an extra-large bag and add your own compost. Growing bags are ideal for plants that don't have deep roots, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet peppers, chilli peppers, aubergines and courgettes. There are many courgette varieties to choose from – some making large trailing plants, ideal if you have plenty of space, while others are bushy and compact, great in small veg plots or containers. Add controlled-release feed before you plant by mixing it into the compost where you have cut holes, or add a liquid feed twice a week once the first fruits have formed.

We’ve created a useful guide of how to grow melon in a greenhouse to get you started and excited for growing this beautiful fruit. You also won’t need to worry quite as much about overwatering, as the excess water will quickly drain through the bags. Should you want even more soil for your tomato plants – which means bigger harvests and less watering – then you can stack two grow bags on top of each other. There are a couple of important factors to be aware of to make sure it is easy to reuse your grow bags.Cover with vermiculite and keep at around 18°C (64°F), ideally in a heated propagator, or cover with a clear plastic bag and place on a warm windowsill.

If you are making your own grow bags it is important to note that grow bag compost may tend to hold water better and have more nutrients added as compared to a general multi-purpose compost. You can also choose from small, medium or full-length fruits, with many different varieties of each type. Fluctuating moisture levels can cause problems with the fruit, such as splitting or blossom end rot (see Problem solving, below). If you aren’t familiar with this term, it simply means that the roots that reach the edges of the bag will be exposed to relatively low humidity, which means they’re pruned off naturally. Cold frames are glaze box-like structures made from brick or wood with a hinged or removable, glazed, sloping lid.It is suggested to add a sturdy handle to the top of the bag for easier transportation once it is filled with soil. This gives the roots lots of space to spread, so you can transfer the seedling to larger pots after 2-3 weeks of growing. They are great for growing in a greenhouse, but will also do well in a sunny spot outdoors, either in the ground or in large pots against a south-facing wall. With the assistance of your greenhouse, you can support an extremely productive harvest throughout the year.

Then sprinkle a general purpose fertiliser, such as Vitax Q4 over the soil at a rate of two handfuls per square metre/yard. There’s an enormous range of varieties to choose from, which is another great benefit of growing your own. Each bag is labeled with the size in gallons so that you can quickly grab the right size out of storage without having to unfold each one. There are currently more than 40 AGM tomatoes to choose from – for a selection, see Recommended varieties, below.

Make sure you water regularly and, once flowers appear, feed weekly with a high-potash fertiliser to increase your crop.Gallon Bags– This gigantic grow bag might seem excessive to some, but it is perfect for those who want to create a big garden and grow a multitude of plants. The cover contains a white inner mesh which blocks out less sunlight than the green mesh found on most PE covers. Even the smallest, unheated structure will allow gardeners to extend the seasons and producegood cropsof a wide range of vegetables.
