About this deal

Rape culture and gender inequality is not about men versus women, Tamblyn says. We all need to empathise more and interrogate our own complicity. “I think liberals do that. In this country, they do it too much, to the point where it harms them. And conservatives don’t do it at all. To the point where it harms them.” Tamblyn appeared in a poetry concert film recorded on August 4, 2002, in Los Angeles, The Drums Inside Your Chest. [29] A new collection of poetry, Bang Ditto, was published in September 2009 by San Francisco's Manic D Press. Beginning in October 2009, she began blogging for the Poetry Foundation's blog, Harriet. [30] Her poem "Bridgette Anderson" was one of the poems featured in Saul Williams' book Chorus, published by MTV Books in September 2011.

[41] On February 21, 2017, Tamblyn announced that she and Cross had recently had a daughter. [42] [43] When I first read the synopsis for Any Man, I was skeptical. Best case scenario, I thought it might be a well-meaning - but ultimately doomed - attempt to foster empathy for survivors of rape by switching up the genders: making the perpetrator a woman, and her victims men. I say doomed because, let's face it: the same misogynist stereotypes that blame and shame women also silence male victims. If women are the weaker sex, how frail must a man be to be physically overpowered by a woman? How can a woman "rape" a man when intercourse hinges on his arousal? (Assuming a pretty narrow definition of rape or sexual assault, this.) If men are DTF 24/7, how can one possibly be raped? And so on and so forth.

Vancouver 24 Hours". Tamblyn joins SNL stars. Archived from the original on July 28, 2012 . Retrieved June 17, 2006. It’s not something men think about very often. Or ever. What it’s like to walk through a parking garage by yourself. Or to the store across the street at night. Or needing to watch your drink in public spaces. In spring 2009, Tamblyn starred in The Unusuals, as NYPD homicide detective Casey Shraeger. [11] The show was canceled after its first season. In the same year, she had a recurring role alongside her eventual husband David Cross in the IFC sitcom The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret. Just like for women, our “Maude” could be any man who walks into a bar. Any man we pass on the street. Any man we ride in an elevator with. It's not all men, but it's enough of them. It's not all men, but we have no way of knowing which men it is. Hetero women are the only species who need to mate with our only known predator. You know, what I mean? It used to be acceptable. It used to be that you hit your wife for corporal punishment like you would a child, and everyone ran a household that way. It was the assumption that men were in charge and women were to be agreeable and if they weren’t, they were punished. Women couldn’t even get a bank loan without a man co-signing with them.

Amber Tamblyn's Dark Sparkler: An unsettling meditation on early fame". TheGuardian.com. April 8, 2015.But it’s a lot of men. And if I don’t know you and we’re alone together at a cross stop or on a jogging trail, yes I’m going to have my guard up. All women are going to have their guards up. That’s not a personal indictment. I’m not saying I think you’ll hurt me. I’m saying I have been conditioned to be concerned for my safety around men. I’m telling you I don’t know what you’ll do because I don’t know you. You’ll probably do nothing. But you could grab me and hold me down. You could slap my ass while you’re walking by. You could flash me. What each of these characters have in common is that they are victims of sexual assault, and they are men. A haunting serial rapist is on the loose, who goes by the name Maude. She preys on men, at bars, online, at parties, as they live the aftermath of their assault in the form of doubt from the police, feelings of shame, and disgust from their family and friends. All the while, the media hound the victims and publicly dissect the details of their assault. What is remarkable is how each of these men band together, and it is by voicing their stories that they find strength and a way forward. Maude is a faceless void. You literally know nothing about her except that she could be any woman who walks into a bar. Any woman you pass on the street. Any woman you ride in an elevator with.
