Look out also for the splendid Victorian swimming pool, featuring an original Aerotone and Turkish baths. If you’re looking for nice beaches near Edinburgh, look no further than Portobello. This popular seaside destination is situated on the Firth of Forth’s southern shore, just a few miles east of the city centre which means it’s very easy to get to whether cycling, driving, or taking a bus. Getting to Ayr beach by train is really easy. There are frequent services running from Glasgow Central that take around 55 minutes. It’s then just a short signposted walk from the station to the seafront. The distillery has a knowledge transfer partnership with nearby Heriot-Watt University, one of the few institutions in the U.K. where you can acquire a degree in distilling. Indeed, Edinburgh Gin’s own head of distilling, David Wilkinson, is an alumnus of the programme. And it was with students on the Heriot-Watt MSc that Edinburgh Seaside was made.

Portobello Beach, known locally as ‘Edinburgh’s seaside’, boasts a stunning 2-mile stretch of golden sand which is perfect for relaxing with a picnic, sunbathing, or enjoying water sports. This family-friendly beach is highly regarded for its shallow waters which make it an ideal spot for swimming and paddling and there’s even a still-intact Victorian Lido which allows visitors to play in the sea while being protected from the waves by a large concrete wall.

Indeed, many of their distillers were educated there, including head distiller David Wilkinson. One of the largest city parks in the world, Holyrood Park covers an area of more than 650 acres, comprising a Highland landscape complete with lochs, grasslands, and hills.
