About this deal

I don’t have the original 5000 but have a 5610 and a bunch of DW5600’s. I do prefer the dd/mm option and it’s a great watch, just the alarm is so quiet like all the solar atomics and the display on my 5610 looks perhaps a tiny bit clearer. Time in all modes is what makes it for me - and it could be an ‘only G’ if I didn’t have about 40 others too!!

I received mine the other day and I can’t believe the difference! The extra weight and strap make this feel so premium. Actually the way the 5610 strap sits on my wrist vs this one means that the 5000u actually sits better but has extra height and heft make it “feel” so much more.

G-Shock GMW-B5000D-1ER

The 5610 wears better. It's lighter and therefore doesn't slip around my wrist like the heavier cased 5000 (especially while working out).

It will be my fourth 5000, all previously and regretfully sold due to a mix of failing eyesight and dial readability. The button tones for using the mode button can be turned off. This means that the watch no longer beeps when switching from one function to another. Preset alarm or countdown timers remain active when the button tones are deactivated. Some specifications (price, material, weight, Neobrite, etc.) for individual models may vary within a series. Some models listed may not be available in all countries. It’s the same module (and display) as your 5610 tho, if you have the older non-U version there are some updates like LED light and I think the world time is different too…..the older ones only display 1 world time I think, whereas the new ones let you select five pre-sets to scroll through (instead of scrolling through alllll the time zones on the older one). Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkThat’s about what I paid and it took around a week to arrive. The thing I liked was that you didn’t get caught out with any unforeseen VAT, customs clearance fees or Royal Mail charges - and I got it before Christmas! You see, I like flying under the radar as far as my watches are concerned. I have no need or want to own and show off the flashiest wrist candy available. My flashiest watch is a Mr Jones Watches Nuage, which is only so because it’s immediately apparent that it’s a watch that is not for telling time. That watch is also on my special list of four, at least until I get a chance to get out to Japan and shop for a vintage Seiko to replace it as my go-to “dress” watch. Another watch I already own that’s on the list is my Seiko Alpinist SARB017, my GADA three-hander. See a trend? I do. My core watches have been or are turning out to be relatively affordable, fun, and largely Japanese (though the Nuage employs a Swiss quartz engine). That won’t be the case for the final addition to the four, though that’s a topic for another article.

Adjustable date format (M.DD or DD.M) and adjustable day of week language (English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian) Synthetic resin is the ideal material for wrist straps thanks to its extremely durable and flexible properties. For fans of precision: the countdown timers help you to remember specific or recurring events by giving off an audible signal at a preset time. The time can be set to the nearest minute and up to 24 hours in advance. Ideal for people who need to take medicines every day or those who do interval training. Thanks for the replies, the colour scheme is certainly one of the nicest I’ve seen…I’m teetering on the edge…You owe it to yourself - it’s Christmas My core watches have been or are turning out to be relatively affordable, fun, and largely Japanese… Elapsed time, split time and final time are measured with 1/100-sec accuracy. The watch can measure times of up to 24 hours. I don’t know of anyone who does it commercially, but you can find out more about the process on Google.

I am a kid of the 1980s, and although I had some watches before, the first watches I bought myself (being a kid) was a digital Casio W-14 in 1986 or so. Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI think they are but will be interesting to compare against one advertised as 1JF.

Countdown start time setting range: 1 second to 24 hours (1-second increments, 1-minute increments and 1-hour increments) Invisible solar cells in the watch convert light into energy and supply all functions. A rechargeable battery provides the necessary capacity for operation in poor light conditions. Perfect for free diving without scuba gear: the watch is water resistant up to 20 bar according to ISO 22810.
