About this deal

Enola shows herself to be an intelligent, rational, resourceful, and brave protagonist. Readers will look forward to hearing this heroine’s unique voice again.” — Publishers Weekly, starred review A strange co-incidence puts Enola on the scent of this man during her next visit to Cahunticleer’s. But just as she is about to clear the mystery of Dr Watson’s disappearance, she finds herself trapped in the glare of police searchlights while trying to get away from the mad murderer. She literally comes crashing down through a glass ceiling. Although Enola has never dressed as a boy and does not wish to, she does realize that trousers would frequently be much more convenient than her skirts. The villain sometimes dresses as a man, frequently taking the role of the brother-in-law she murdered. While her sister is freaked out by her desire to dress as a man, Enola thinks that the villain makes a much more satisfactory man than woman, and the sister is narrow-minded to think otherwise. Classism As is typical, coded messages play a central role. Toward the end, there’s a coded message that isn’t decrypted for the reader immediately. Enola as the narrator asks the reader to wait until she reveals the message, even though certainly we could figure out the coded message. I wonder how many young readers who hadn’t before bothered to play with the encryptions took the time to figure that one out? It’s a fun way to draw the reader in a little deeper. Language

To acquire the supplies she needs for her disguise, Enola visits a shop run by a woman who calls herself Pertelote. It transpires that Pertelote is an accomplice to Watson's kidnapping, and that Pertelote's sister is behind it. Now, while it does take some clever work on Enola's part to figure that out, she would never have been in position to do so without this huge coincidence.

The plot is interesting, although it’s way to fast paced to be immersive. I understand this may be because this is a graphic novel. The plot is also way to convenient for there to be any real stakes. The climax is practically non existent because of the fast paced nature of the book. It’s just one action after the other, and we never really get a break to process what is going on. She manages to rent a room in the house across from the Watsons and starts waiting for the next bouquet. She intercepts the delivery boy, who talks about a man who gave him the bouquet and then his nose fell out !!! For when Enola visits the grieving Mrs. Watson, she discovers a decidedly bizarre bouquet among the standard bunches of flowers signifying condolences. Composed of an odd and sinister assortment of flowers, the bizarre bouquet seems to have been sent by someone who wanted revenge on Dr and/or Mrs Watson, and who is very happy the Doctor is missing. Perhaps the sender of the bouquet is also the one responsible for Dr. Watson's disappearance..!

Springer has also stated that Enola is partially based on her own life. She herself is much younger than her two older brothers, who left for college before she reached puberty. Springer, too, had an artist for a mother, who was talented with painting watercolor flowers. Due to cancer, menopause and an early-onset form of dementia, Springer's mother spent less time with her after she turned 14 years old. Further, like Enola, Springer "was a scrawny, bony, gawky tree-climbing tomboy with hair that needed to be washed" and was "solitary and bookish." [2] a b Bhattacharya, Suryasarathi (2020-09-23). Even more difficult, than choosing a name for a child, for one is confusingly intimate with oneself, whereas one is barely acquainted with a baby upon its arrival.

Do people still read things into bouquets like that?I initially read/listened to audiobook version of the Enola Holmes mysteries when my girls were very small. Now they are much older and enjoy listening to audiobooks, I thought it would be fun if we listened to the Enola Holmes stories this summer when we drive around on errands. Released in September 2022, Enola is once again trying to help her friend, Lady Cecily. No se ahonda en exceso en el asunto, pero se aprenden cosas. she made a much more satisfactory man than a woman, and it was narrow-minded of Pertelote to think otherwise” ….wut? This is about a woman who has literally no face left, disguising herself as a man to take revenge on Dr. Watson…. And this is what we have to say about it? Okay then. Oh, and Enola tells a story of a women who was put away into an insane asylum because she sat down on the ground in her dress and her husband thought it was less embarrassing than divorce. Um….. okay. This author really wants to portray these times as just a living hell, doesn’t she?
