About this deal

Hannah leaves The Stranger Times to do some investigation on a wellness retreat/cult, meanwhile a previous contributor of the paper disappears without a trace. It does sound like the author knew exactly how to handle all these different character adventures to allow them to grow individual and on the reader. Saying that strange things are afoot at the offices of The Stranger Times is a bit like telling someone that the Pope is a Catholic but bear with me because they are weird even by Banecroftian standards. We dive straight in to the mysteries, as we find that Hannah has left The Stranger Times to go back to her ex-husband.

Because I find them a bit too over the top and frankly quite tedious, except for that one grand lady, giving me huge Maggie Smith vibes. I was delighted to see that there is a multi-part Stranger Times series in development so get in early folks and catch up on your reading first. The opening chapters show us a Banecroft in even worse shape than before, and his odd behaviour has only gotten worse. Outlandish, entertaining and very energetic Love Will Tear Us Apart is kooky and fantastical, a riotous experience, one not to be missed. It remains just as strong, maybe even stronger, after the conclusion of this book, the third in the series. Once you have you started Love Will Tear Us Apart you will be shocked to find that stalwart Hannah has up and left the office with zero notice. Another thing was how the "MHHHH, MANSPLAINING" type overused, unimaginative, unoriginal comments are getting more frequent.

The characters all become familiar in a very short space of time and so much so that you are rooting for them all the way through. Only 4 stars this time because It took a little while to really get into it but I'd still recommend this series to anyone in need of a good laugh. I. tom Sturgess has an eyeball living in his head, or why there’s a talking dog on a barge, might slow down the plot. The book is a brilliant addition to the series and whilst it can be read as standalone I would start back at the beginning and meet these wonderful characters and follow their backstories in books one and two. Don't get me wrong, the first two had some of those, but at this point everyone has to say those things and it's a bit tiresome.

The reason is simple, I loved The Stranger Times and This Charming Man and I was desperate to find out where this series was going to go next! Took me longer to get into than the first two, and I flipped and flopped between really enjoying it, and not being motivated to carry on reading. We can have all the hilarity and madcap scenes each book dishes out, but that intrigue is one of the master strokes of this series. The Stranger Times gang interacting and their banter are what I've grown to really like with this series. The tempo sometimes lulled a bit too much for me and I felt like I wanted the whole thing to move along a bit quicker. As promised in the blurb this book resolves a few story arcs that have been with us since the beginning of the series and adds a few more besides. The owner of The Stranger Times gave him an opportunity to redeem himself and, although his behaviour was most times bullish and downright anti-social, he has provided an acceptable service to date. And as this is the culmination of one of the series’ overarching plot threads, you need to know about Banecroft, his wife and Simon Brush.

For me, this storyline was weak compared to the others, as if it was something thrown in so we didn’t forget the character existed. Welcome back to Manchester and the weird and wonderful environment of the offices of The Stranger Times. This latest book is full of the usual random crazy events for the staff of the weird and wacky Stranger Times Newspaper. He performed all around the world, had several well-received Edinburgh shows and supported acts such as Sarah Millican and Gary Delaney on tour before hanging up his clowning shoes to concentrate on writing. Every conversation, however random they might seem, has a point which is revealed in due course and brings everything to a sort-of neat ending. K. McDonnell and audio narrator Brendan McDonald once again delivered an amazing story with this continuation of The Stranger Times series. There’s clearly a lot more to come for our intrepid team, and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
