About this deal

Sub bass is deep, has good rumble, mid bass slams hard and full bodied, it also has great sense of physicality, you can feel the bass moves air to your ear canal. The midrange is more recessed on the S12 Pro and vocal and midrange lovers might want to opt for the Talos if this frequency band is your cup of tea. The S12 Pro’s treble is more boosted, sparkly, and airy but may cause fatigue if one is treble-sensitive. The Stellaris have a more marked boost in the upper mids and treble, with greater treble extension, sparkle, and air. Note weight is very thin on the Stellaris, and their timbre is quite unnatural when acoustic instruments show up in the music; vocals are overly nasal. DUNU is one of the most reputable Chi-Fi brands and has manufactured and developed earphones since 2003, including OEM/ODM products for other audio companies.

I wouldn’t call the S12P the best in the price range when it comes to focusing on details, but it certainly is much better than your average earphone. There isn’t much which gets left behind with this particular tuning and the ability of these drivers. All throughout the spectrum details in my music are present. I definitely would not refer to the S12P as ‘top of the heap’ against a field of very nice iems but I also wouldn’t rate the S12P very far down on the list. The treble region follows much of the same story. The I3P are bigger in note weight with a warmer tonality, fuller, while the S12P have a slightly thinner but possibly more detail-oriented sound. Both iems present technicalities very nicely with two very different tonal expressions. S12P have more dryness with an airier sound and the I3P are warmer, more syrupy and fuller and more robust. Both have nice resolution and clarity. The sub-bass on the P1 MAX rolls a little earlier while the bass is leaner and drier sounding but with a touch of extra control and clarity compared to the S12 PRO which is fuller and weightier but more hollow and looser.

LETSHUOER is a China based company run by expert audio engineers and keen audiophiles that makes custom and universal in-ear monitors while they have recently expanded their line of products to include a mini-sized USB DAC dongle. DUNU has obtained internationally-recognized acoustic research achievements and patents. DUNU was one of the pioneers in developing a full beryllium dome single DD IEM in the LUNA, which are still regarded as one of the top-of-the-line single DD sets that can match multi-BA/hybrid IEMs in resolution. Most other purported beryllium DD IEMs are plated or coated only.

In the pure planar setting, the Talos have slightly poorer imaging, clarity, and soundstage, when compared to the Stellaris. However, if the hybrid mode is activated, the Talos have the upper hand in technical performance. What happens though is that the timbre is just a touch metallic and artificial while the S12 PRO is not that resolving and refined in the treble as in the mid range. Not to mention, planar iem takes EQ like a champ. It doesn’t suffer from disortion or a sense of suffercate if you take DD’s bass to the extreme through EQ. Theoretically, the PR1 Pro should have come with 3 pair of foam tips, yet in my case there was only one pair of M size foam tips with two pair of S and L size whirlwind silicone tips. No biggie, as I only use the M size foam tips anyway.Mids on this set is very musical, instrument such as trumpet sounds correct, if planar usually present mids on analytical manner, the PR1 Pro has more musicality on it. Treble - instruments are clear and concise, accurate yet not sibilant, cymbals and high hats are good and can be heard in their respective area. With a near reference tuning and a good suit of technicalities, the bass is one of the S12 PRO strongest points. For the cable, it comes with upgraded 8 strand KZ SPC Cable, its supple and soft, for the connector, i believe it use 0.75 type c KZ connector / QDC

Detail Retrieval & Resolution: On par with sets like dioko, which means it has great details for its price, tho some might say dioko has better details due to its unnatural peak on the 8khz region forcing the treble to stands out like a sore thumb. I’ve had plenty of time to enjoy the S12P, enough time to know that it’s a keeper for me. The slightly colored balance between the frequencies is something I’ve really grown keen to. I like the dynamism, and the “close to DD” like nature of the low-end coupled with an easy going yet energetic treble region. The look of this set is great, from the earphones themselves all the way down to the rad looking modular cable. Furthermore, the choice of colors evokes a sense of poised masculinity due to the blueish/purplish hue and stainless-steel accents…it just looks tough. I think it’s the best-looking iteration of the “S12 Line”. Anyways, I don’t want to re-hash this entire review. I think Letshuoer is on the right path, and I will be sure to follow them closely in the future. Customers have to bear any form of custom/import/processing fees that are applicable for your parcel. The P1 MAX from TinHifi is another example of a budget friendly earphone with a planar magnetic driver that has an admittedly great audio performance for the price.

The PRO edition comes with an upgraded custom 14.8mm planar magnetic driver which has a 102db high sensitivity that means that it can be easily driven by a cell phone or dongle DACs.

Weak sources may be able to drive the Talos, but these scale with amplification. Dynamics and bass tightness improve with a better soundstage heard. Frequency response graph of the Talos via an IEC711 compliant coupler. There certainly is an emphasis in this region but that rise doesn’t ever come close to muddy or cross the midrange line adversely. I really enjoy the output here. I grew up on bass and I always need at least a generous portion so long as there is some semblance of control. The S12P is all control, all the time, without being overbearing or exhausting after long stretches of listening. Resolution and clarity are very nice in this region with a tidy and clean response. Well done, Letshuoer! Midrange Low-Mids Mids on Sundara is more forward compared to the PR1 Pro and overal sound presentation of the Sundara is more focused around mids area / mid-centric. Sound signature: I’d say the the PR1 Pro has a balance tuning with a hefty bass and treble boost. It’s not exactly pure V-shaped because I didn’t find the mids to be too recessed, but more on that later. Comfort is decent enough. Each earpiece weighs 14g, and the housings are smooth with no weird protrusions. They always say balanced cables improve the sound you hear. Well, it is the plugs actually and they do. If they do nothing, the least they can do is smooth out the spikes and fill in the ramps on any frequency graph, making the reviewer regret what they said. The resin ear-shells are anatomically shaped and lightweight but considerably bulkier than that of the S12 PRO. Just for the sake of overall planar comparison, the PR1 Pro if compared to full sized headphone such as Sundara, it has the exact same planar characteristics, nothing is lost on the PR1 Pro, just different tuning and different price point and different form factor.
