About this deal

Talk to your child: explain why it is time to give up using a soother – for example, because your child is getting too big or because the soother is old and tired. Before using this bottle, parents and carers should be instructed in its safe use by a trained feeding specialist. This will reduce the risk of the baby aspirating or choking during feeds. Tip: If you would rather take a look at our glass baby bottles and find out more about them, go to our Baby Glass Bottles category.

This is purely a matter of “taste”. Both materials have their advantages. You can, of course, switch between teat materials. However, once children have their first teeth, we recommend the use of soothers made from latex as it is more bite-resistant than silicone. For restful nights, our range also includes models with a light-up effect. The glow-in-the-dark material allows your baby to find its cup all by itself and therefore promotes independent drinking. All you have to do is put the NUK cup in the light for a while. The special material stores the light energy and emits it as a soft glow for up to eight hours. The cute cup design is not only pretty to look at, but also extremely robust. So if the learner cup does fall onto the floor, that's no problem. The BPA-free polypropylene (PP) that our NUK cups are made of is strong and can withstand a fall from a high chair without any problems. Drinking cups & bottles in different shapes and designs of mothers were satisfied or very satisfied with the NUK First Choice Clinic Teat. The majority of nurses would like to continue working with the new teats. children who go to sleep with a soother have a much lower risk of cot death. However, the specific reasons for this have not yet been completely researched.

The main difference is that latex is a natural product whereas silicone is synthetically produced. As a result, both materials have their own special characteristics. As every material has its individual advantages and disadvantages, we offer a selection of robust baby drinking bottles made of glass as well as baby drinking bottles made of high-quality polypropylene (PP) and polyamide (PA), naturally free of BPA. The lightweight and unbreakable plastic material of the NUK baby drinking bottles is a good choice when on the go and promotes the learning effect when drinking, as the little ones can easily hold the weight of the bottle themselves without any danger. Baby bottles made of polyamide are highly transparent and come visually closer to the glass bottle. Baby bottles made of polypropylene, on the other hand, can be frozen and heated in the microwave. Using them for longer than this can lead to problems. Your baby may become used to the swollen size of the teats and find it difficult to use new teats, as they are not available in larger sizes. It can also be dangerous, as small tears will start to form in the delicate latex and make these teats harder to properly sterilise. Callie and her Cleft’ picture book about cleft lip and palate (please let us know if you’d like this included)

MAM recommends cold water sterilisation be used (e.g. Milton fluid, which is widely available) as this can help the teats to retain their shape for longer. MAM Vented All Ages Teats brand new (left) and after 6 weeks of use (right). N.B: All NUK Soothers have an AIR SYSTEM. A vent allows air to escape from the baglet when it is pressed together by the palate. This means that the teat always fits a child´s mouth perfectly. During boiling, water can get into the baglet through the vent. The hole plays an important role too – in NUK Teats it is slightly offset. This means the milk mixes with the saliva and is more easily digested. The medical basis behind this product was developed by the dental practitioners Prof. Dr. Dr. Balters and Dr. med. dent. Müller. They noticed first of all that the mother's nipple changes shape when the baby feeds and only then is optimal coordination in the mouth achieved. And this special asymmetrical shape is used as the model for all NUK teats to this very day. We offer learner cups and bottles in many different sizes and shapes, so there's a model to suit everyone. With a spout or a 360-degree drinking rim, our NUK learner cups and bottles make everyday life easier for parents and help your child to develop new skills. You can easily determine the level of support your child needs when drinking from a NUK cup: The ergonomic handles of the learner cups are a useful detail, especially in the early days, to introduce your baby to drinking from cups at the appropriate pace. If your child can already manage without stabilisers, you can try drinking from handleless learner cups with a drinking straw. Easy to hold - What shape are the bottles? Some bottles are straight, whilst others have gripped sides or ridges to create an ergonomic shape, which can be easy for your baby to hold as they get bigger. The orthodontic NUK teat was developed based on this knowledge. Even if you are not supposed to breastfeed (any more), the teat supports your baby as naturally as possible.

When choosing the right soother, the material of the teat also plays an important role, since you can choose between latex or silicone soothers. Latex particularly excels with its high elasticity, extreme resilience, high tensile and tearing strength, extraordinary flexibility, environmentally friendly disposal and the fact that it does not easily become statically charged, which means that latex does not attract dust. This type of soother is, therefore, particularly recommended for small children who are growing their first teeth. Silicone soothers, on the other hand, are easy to clean and are particularly resistant to temperature. They are free of harmful substances, boil-proof, odourless, transparent and have a smooth surface. If you are unsure which material is best for your child, you can also let him decide for himself - since many babies only accept one of the materials. Useful accessories for the soother Suitable for combination feeding* - the extra wide lip support simulates breast feeding as closely as possible Soon the probably most exciting and beautiful challenge of your life will begin: Your baby will be born and you, as a mum or dad, couldn't be happier or more proud about your little one! Especially in the first few months of life, you give your little darling a lot of attention and want to be perfectly equipped for all eventualities. The popular soother, which soothes your baby in every situation and provides gentle moments of well-being is an integral part of yours baby's basic equipment. The soother: For your child's healthy oral development Polypropylene is a translucent, synthetic material, which is used by NUK for the manufacture of BPA-free baby bottles. Its smooth surface ensures that it is pleasant to touch. It is notably shatterproof and is even suitable for freezing. The teat should always be completely full of milk while feeding. Burping is also important after bottle or breastfeeding.

However, plastic is neither as heat-resistant as glass and nor as scratchproof. When the bottles are scratched inside, you should replace them, as germs can settle in the scratches more easily.
