About this deal

A sub plot, which occurred a few months earlier is also instrumental to the events taking place in the present.

Our second protagonist is Ava Turner, a sharp, bright, unfailingly hard-working detective who, as the series progresses, quickly rises through the ranks. Despite being a huge mystery fan, and a lover of detective series, this is my first, but not last, from this author.A great page turner from Fields, I devoured it in a matter of hours and am already anxious for the next instalment. It would work as a standalone, but if you haven't read the previous six books you should really treat yourself.

It's timely, tackling up-to-the minute issues in a realistic, relatable way as it ticks all the boxes for what you want in a great thriller. This secondary story is truly authentic, tragic in its own way, and almost as nerve wracking as the attacks on the city. I just finished One for the Sorrow and it was just brilliant, I feel like all my emotions were put in the tumble dryer on high speed spin for 8 hours, what a ride that book was. However, the bomber keeps tipping off the police and they are having to respond even though they know they are walking into a trap. She starts this even before the first page by threading the first half of a seemingly innocent children’s nursery rhyme about counting magpies into the book synopsis.I literally could not put this one down it had me hooked from the first to the last page, it absorbs you in, full of suspense, tension and action and the character development is superb! DCI Ava Turner attends a funeral of a good friend, she’s dazed, angry and full of grief but informs Death that it hasn’t won and she will exact revenge no matter the cost. When you’re able, you need to make time to understand how privileged you are to have felt such pain. I really don't like sad books but the way the author did this book, it was really sad but I was so wrapped up in the story and on the edge of my seat that the sad parts didn't affect me the way they. There was also a fabulous cross-over character from one of Fields standalone books that I was really surprised and happy to see included!
